I already know it plays DVDs so the remaing questions are:

- can you use PS2 memory cards for PS2 games? I heard different answers but I want a correct one!

- can you use a PS2 Gameshark for PS2 games on the PS3?

So far I know, those are the only questions I got.

you can't use the Memory cards but if you can create virtual memory cards for ps1 and ps2( assuming your ps3 can play ps2 games). you can't use the game shark.

You would need to purchase a 60GB Model, 20GB Model, Older 80GB (plays about 80%)model PlayStation 3 which you could find on ebay or amazon. You make internal memory cards on the PS3, or you can purchase a Memory Card Adaptor from most stores that will allow you to use your previous saved data.

No the PS3 do not use gamesharks. You might as well purchase a PS2 for a Bill dude. It plays DVD's and all PS2 games of course.

What? are you serious? That doesn'y make sense! Why would the PS3 that's currently on sale not have a PS2 backwards compatibility but the other ones did? I was going to get a PS3 for a couple of PS3 games and so I could play PS2 games on it, because my PS2's disc tray is F***ing up on me. Well, I guess I have to put up with that if I want to continue playing PS2 games again in the future. Thanks for the answers.

You need a memory card adapter that costs about $10-$15 to acces PS2 memory on the PS3 and I don't know about Gameshark. If you have any further questions about the PS3, refer to my PS3 FAQ Thread which is linked in my sig below and in the main stickied thread on the PS3 forum. The thread should answer any more questions you have. If not, then you can make a thread about it.

they can have BC, sony just doesnt do it because ps2 is STILL selling. if ps3 had BC who would buy ps2? half as many people would. sony will wait untill ps2 stops selling as much then magically they will announce that they finally finished a software update to play ps2 games.

That's just wrong dude. Most people today who buy PS2s do it because they can't afford the 360 or PS3. Sony's primary console is the PS3. If the PS2 was eating into the PS3's market share, Sony would be committing brand cannibalism and it would be better for them to discontinue the PS2.
