Im starting this forum up becuase of the psp's largest problem. Pirating. These kids are killing their own system. Ive heard the most terrible excuses for example when i Pirate games i am actaully increasing sales as my friends see my playing the game and bye it. These excuses are terrible. I recently went on a youtube campagne posting "And you guys wonder why the psp doesnt get that many games. Your downloading hurts developers who chose not to create games. Congratulations, cheap skates your killing your own system" on every pirating video i could find. Any how i was just wondering what would you say to these people who are and i repear ARE breaking the law

I don't like pirating, but unfortunately those that are inclined to do so won't be swayed by words. It's a shame that the PSP isn't what it could be because certain people can't stay within the rules.

It does suck for third party developers but not so much for Sony. Those who do pirate games to put on their psps still need to buy a psp and memory card(s). Also, it is too bad Sony does not re-relase classic PS1 games on UMDs. Kind of like what Nintendo did with their old Nintneodo games being put on a GBA cartridge.

Dude, I would say "get a real life", because pirating is just a poor excuse for a life-style. Sit at home. Burn CDs. Sell them. Repeat. Oh yeah, and than you get caught and go to jail... Great life, man.

I have a friend who pirates his PSP games, but he doesn't sell them or give them to other people, I did tell him to actually buy some games but he pointed out that his UMD drive is broken because he bought his PSP 2nd hand and the PS Store doesn't have many games, nor does he have a credit/debit card, so he can't play games any other way really :?

That's still no excuse. Get the UMD drive repaired, or purchase another second hand PSP (while making sure the UMD drive works).

Some piraters try out games first to make sure they're not buying crap. And games from a memorystick is faster from a UMD.

The majority of pirates use those same excuses and more to defend thier piracy practices. In the end, they're still pirating. Not cool.

Pirating is not a life-style. I have a PSP-3000 so I couldn't mod it even if I wanted to (not that I play my PSP anymore anyways).

But here is how pirating on the PSP works. Your sitting at home like you are right now. You download, and then do whatever while you wait for the game to download. You don't burn CDs and anyways that only takes a few clicks of a mouse. Nobody sells pirated games nor have they ever because pirated games are free... I'd doubt anyone has been caught downloading games in North America in the past few years. Because cops don't care. And even if you did get caught you wouldn't go to jail, it would be a fine in cash.

Nobody sells pirated games? Are you kidding me?

Just do a quick search on Craigslist or Kijiji with something as simple as "PSP Games" or "DS Games," and you'll find out. Some retails stores even sell pirated games. Have you been to Toronto? There's a well known hotspot mall for pirated games here, where finding a store that sells genuine copies is more difficult then finding a store that sells pirated copies. I'm sure other cities have similar offerings too.

The police DO care about intellectual crimes. However, the police generally don't have the resources to go after 12 year old kids who pirate maybe, $200 worth of games. If they did however, pirates would be pretty darn screwed, and good for them.

So in other words, because we're not interested in undermining a corporation finacially and shooting ourselves in the foot as hobbiests by stealing from the hands that feed, we're suddenly not as tech-savvy as you or other pirate-friendly people? I think you know the place you can put that spurrious logic...

Pirating is an old business that just won't go away! Pirating stays with the times and because of those people the rest of us must suffer by missing out on games that could have been.

I still buy and play, I won't be stealing at PSP games, I'd rather buy them, but if the only way for me to play FFVII, or Breathe of Fire III and IV, is to find some person over pricing it on Ebay, then find a PS1 memory card, and pray all them work together, sorry not worth the effort. Call me lazy if you want but it doesn't make sense to spend 100 bucks to play one game, I loved it but not enough to sacrifice good hard work just to find it.

If they made a remake for PSP, you damn better believe I'd buy it, even if nothing was changed. If companies made remakes put on PSP or DS or anything I would buy that stuff, but they don't and I can't seem to find it unless I go through a ridiculous tedious network. In comparison I see it similar to playing and paying for board games, not only do have to find the exact right piece to the set, but I have to paint the damn thing. Sorry I'd rather just play and same some time.

im morally unsound? hmm lets see, i have the 3000 it cant be hacked, i buy all my games like people should, nothing about that makes me a morally unsound person that and who are you to judge my character? my point is that *hypothetical situation* if sony accidentally released an update that let people play any game for free almost all these people in this forum bashing people who download their games would become the people they hate the most.

im not all that appaled by it.

My "friend" pirates game and plays them for like 3 minutes, and from that gets the feel for it.

He buys his games but puts them on his memory stick so it loads faster.

I guess he's a supporting pirate.

Why do these topics last so long? We are not even suppose to be remotely referring to any of this, pro or con, under the ideal that any reference will promote the spread.... well anyhow ya pirating PSP GAMES probably dosen't help the situation but there are defiantly other factors at play here on sonys side. And i agree with ShadowedSight on the PS1 games.

It's a waste to say anything to them. People who don't care about killing an entire console generally don't care about others' opinions. And to armyman -- don't flatter yourself by saying most people couldn't pirate. It isn't that freakin' complicated.

What I don't like is that Gamespot is sponsored by some websites that sell the tools needed to pirate games on psp. But you can't talk about it!!

Just check the sponsored sites at the bottom of the psp forums

Okay , i know piracy is wrong !

But in my country lebanon it is the only way ! No body sells legal gams for the psp they only sell legal games for the ps3 ( whitch sales are lagging and ain't doing good here because it is not pirated ) . Like if i need to play a game i have to go to pirating , i know it is wrong but in my country if there was no piracy there won't be video games , because firstly a game here is much more expensive than in the US and there is no renting , a psp game costs 80 dollars and a ps3 game costs 130 dollars !!! How do you Expect a 14 year old to make 80 $ and actually spend them on a game ! And even if i could no body sells legal psp games ! There are people here who sell pirated games , no not just some people all stores sell pirated games and a lot buy them not knowing that they are buying illegal copies . I am not encouraging piracy but here it is the only way . And don't start saying and cursing my country , or saying that i am a terorist (witch happens a lot ) because i am arabian , i am a christian that lives in a wealthy and good family but also if i had the money there wouldn't be any game to buy !

Again i am not saying that piracy is a good thing but here it is the only way !

at least you live in a country that sells legal games , here piracy is kinda legalized by the government there are a lot of places that sells pirated games , and the government does nothing about it because piracy is what is making video games selling and working here

Piracy aside op I think you are seriously over estimating the psp. I love my psp hell I still have my 1000 from day 1 after school. I keep seeing the games that could have been bs... um you wouldn't know if that haven't been. An more games doesn't mean quality games it could just mean more shovleware believe me I've seen that on other systems. Sony has always been about quality over quantity an the games I've got plus the games to come prove that to me.

FF Dissidia, Parasite eve the third birthday, FFXIII agito, Monster hunter freedom Unite, Kingdom hearts birth by sleep, Disgaea 2, Motor storm Arctic Edge, Little Big Planet, Assassins Creed an there's more but that's just a few currently announced titles.

Currently: Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Disgaea afternoon of darkness, Hot shots golf 2, God of war chains of olympus, Breath of Fire 3, Monster hunter freedom 2, Jeanne Darc, killzone liberation, tekken dark ressurection- and that's just my personal taste there is more

If that's what you call a hindered lineup then dang man you must have played some console I've never heard of before that just produces AAA games per week.

^ I totally agree with you on that one. I mean, I hate to say it, but look at the Wii. Out of all those games, how many are quality games? I really can't stand shovelware and I think that PSP Piracy almost hinders that. Think of it like this, the people who make good games (Square Enix for example) can bring games like Dissidia over to the US because they know they will make tons of money. Of course, they will lose money to pirates, but for the rest of us who buy our games, we don't mind paying and supporting a developer for a quality game.

This, I think, almost blocks the people who make shovelware because the only people who would play it would maybe be pirates. No one would want to pay for thier crap anyways. They know they'd loose money. All in all, I believe that the PSP is hands down the hardest system to develop for, just because piracy is just so high on the console and they have keep that in mind.

I agree, I don't see any problem if you have the PS1 game and make it available for play on your PSP. That and modding a game to get more bang for your buck. (as an example, downloading home brew "missions" or "levels" for a game you own. But of course not doing so in a fashion to make it where you can cheat on, say, online play)

Whether more quality games would come out of lowering piracy or everything would be the same, at least give the companies that make the games you love credit where credit is due.

I've pirated PC games before, then went and bought the game. I don't anymore because I have enough of an income that it's not really a big deal if i waste 15-20 on a PC game.

PSP games are different. There's a LOT more work involved in pirating those and getting them to work. It's not worth my time, and I'd rather just wait a few weeks till the PSN has a game I want on my memory card so I don't have to worry about it not working or it riding my concience.

However, I do torrent movies for the PSP quite a bit. Yes, I'm admitting that on the GS forum, but hear me out. I already own all the movies I'm downloading, so I'm not violating any intellectual copyrights, I'm just downloading it in a form which is easier to use on my PSP. I could go and convert it myself, but it's easier to spend a few hours downloading it. I have Iron Man, Transformers, and Twilight this way. It's completely legal (IF YOU OWN THE MOVIES) and relatively handy.

About music, I honestly don't do this anymore either but I have done it in the past. I deleted my library and reloaded it from the CDs I own, because my car won't play burned CDs anyway, sadly. However, I'm not terribly opposed to it. I think that without things like Pandora and Limewire and Napster (when it was good) I wouldn't know half the music I do. However, I DO have Pandora now, and don't need limewire.

Pirating isn't what's ruined the system, hacking is. I've never had any desire to give myself an unfair advantage in a game where you go up against other humans. Games where you have an advantage to some extent (such as Left4Dead) against the opposition are great. However, if I was playing a game like Halo 2 or Retribution and met a hacker, I would go to great lengths to get them kicked off the network.

Actually pirating does ruin a system but no in the ways you would think. What pirating does is it creates a significant detterence for game developers to create games on the systerm being pirated. Thus very few games will come out on the system and sales will plummet. This will eventually lead the the system going into obscurity and finaly just a memory. I have nothing against those who dowload movies as they do not effect the population as much as game downloading.

For example those who pirate games, I ask them what is your favorite game. Then i tell them fat chance of a sequal. Anouther great example of pirating games would be resistance retribution. It sold 150 000 which is a decent amount but not enough for an A list game. When you look at the amount of downloads one is amazed. The downloads for resistance were nearly twice! the actual sales.
This kills a system So really i dont care what lame excuses you game piraters come up with. You are the lowest of low. Also to the ignoramous from lebanon who says pirating games is legal there. I never new Lebanon had a third rate standard of education but you are an example of 4rth rate. Lebanon is does not have the recourses to persicute the piraters as the country itself is barely being held together. So it is not legal my ignorant freind. Please go crawl back into your hole.

For the guy who proclaimes he is from a distant country and also proclaims to be from a rich white christian family. I have somehting for you. Its called Ebay

Use it and elevate your self from the scum around you

Dude, I would say "get a real life", because pirating is just a poor excuse for a life-style. Sit at home. Burn CDs. Sell them. Repeat. Oh yeah, and than you get caught and go to jail... Great life, man.

How can you sell a ROM or an ISO? You need a modded console to play pirated games and they are free. Maybe people are selling but nobody is buying something thats only a click away. And I agree with the guy who said people would DL free games if for some reason something like that came on an update.

Just because the console needs to be modded doesn't stop them. I have seen these pirated copied as well. They downlaod the games to a DVD or however format and make them look "offical'. Then u go to play them and ethier u can't or the games don't work. (I have been tricked 2 tiems by this case. 1st on a GBA games and 2nd on a PSP game....)

Here is Brazil they do. Piracy doesn't really happen much in the US as far as I know, but it's a big thing here. It may not be a life-style but it is job (poor choice of words on my part). So, basically they need to get a real job... I'm not talking about just PSP gmaes here, I"m talking about everything. The black market is very strong here and the same guys that pirate movies and video games are the same dudes dealing guns and drugs. I can buy pirated DVDs on the street corner from a guy who films them with his camcorder in theatres. They can pirate anything! Software, hardware, games, consoles, you name it. They guys spend are serious and no they aren't 12 year old kids.
