So now that the Emotion engine is out of the upcoming PS3s, does that mean the only way to play all the PS2 games is to have one of the 20 or 60GB PS3s? Or will all of the PS3's not play all of the PS2 games now that they use software instead of hardware for BC?

I think they say 98% of the games works. That is compared to like 70% on the emulation version.

I only have about 10 PS2 games, but they all work perfect.

The reason I ask is because I wanted to know if those interested in bc would be better off getting one of the remaining 60GB.... if it will offer more bc than the newer 80gb models without the emotion engine. I hear both: that the 60GB has more PS2 titles supported, and then I hear that all PS3s now use software emulation, regarless of the hardware differences. If that's true, then that sucks for people who have 60gb models... will we be unable to play some PS2 games despite the fact that we have what amounts to a PS2 inside our PS3?

They are puting emulation in the new ones, so you can still plaay all of your PSone and PS2 games.

Yes I know, I know. but the emulation will not work with as many gamesas the earlier hardware solution (it's unable to emulate roughly 1/4 of the games.) I want to know if having a 60GB model (or heaven forbid, a 20GB lol) will allow you to play the games that software emulation wont. Understand?

I have the 60 gig ps3 and I picked up stuntman and it played fine. I dont know how to answer your main question due to not following the whole thing with the 60 and the 80 gig. But I have picked up alot of ps2 games right after i got my ps3 and so far I have been able to play all of the ps2 games i own. I hope this helps.

I bet the compatibility issues with the 80gig's emulation software will be fixed through future system updates (but it will probably be a slow process). With the 60 gig, pretty much every PS1 and PS2 game is playable right off the bat (only a few wayward titles don't work in their respected library) so if people care about backwards compatability and playing the latest PS3 games, the 60 is the way to go.

Exactly - 98% which is pretty darn good. :)
