Ok, I call my good friend up in Massachusetts, and the "I now own a PS3, you should get one too" got into our conversation somehow. I usually have a hard time getting to talk to him latelly, so I told him I would probable get one, and we could play each other, and other friends as well.

Before this confversation I had stop playing for like over a year, which is petty much the time we hadn't talk to each other, so I toke my PS2 out of retirement and start playing again.

So I was serious when I said I would try to get one as well, but I have a big dilema ahead of me, and I need other thoughts to help me figure this out.

Ok, so I got just a regular 34 inches TV, I don't have an HDTV, if I buy a HDTV I would have to get rid of it the 34 inch one, there is no question about that, and I would probable would not get anything in return for it, which would suck, and if I would have to do that, I would probable go for a nice one, in which I could keep for years to come, but doing so, there would be no PS3 for a very long time. So is pratically, either the PS3 or the HDTV.

Now here are the downs on the HDTV, I'll not be getting HDTV signal channels, I'll not be spending money on BlueRay movies. Reason, I can get a variety of DVD tittles on my local library for free, and the only reason I have some money to spare now, is because I stop spending on DVDs. So if I buy the TV, I don't see how worth would be.

Buying a PS3, I would have no HDTV to go with, but my library also carry PS3 games, and games last longer then movies (games could take me months to finish playing, movies only take a couple hours), so if is a good and long game I might buy it, in case the library doesn't carry out.

So is it worth to upgrade to a PS3, even if you don't have a HDTV, and is it worth to have an HDTV if I'm not going to have HD channels, or movies to go along?

And if you had to get one, which one would it be first. Which has the better possibility of getting cheaper sooner? Should I just wait, until I have enough for both?

I don't know what to do.:(

The difference between playing on an SDTV and an HDTV is like night and day.

I would suggest grabbing a ps3 first and playing it on the TV you already have. Than once you get some pennies saved up, pick yourself up like a 32/37 inch HDTV for the ps3.

Your other option would be to buy the HDTV now (you can get good ones for pretty cheap now) and save your money up for the ps3 until they release the Slims.

If your TV allows the use of Component cables (red, blue, and green +red n white for sound) then it won't be too bad...but if your set needs the Composite ones yellow, red n white) then your better off buying a HDTV cause it won't look good at all.

HDTV and BluRay just go hand in hand so start saving up, seriously. In the end you'll be glad you did.

I personally own a 27" HDTV thats fits perfectly in my bedroom. It even doubles as my PC monitor too.

I just check, and it has a blue + red, but not green + red. I usually have no problem getting new stuff, but the idea of getting rid of things that are completely fine just put me down. It would be much easier if my TV just broke right now, it would make decisions much simpler. I think would be better to give away to someone, then to sell for like 50 bux, I don't even know how much is worth it today. I pay 510 dollars 4 years ago when HDTV were 2000+ dollars, now I could even get an HDTV for almost the price I pay on this one. Also my TV remote stop working like 2 months ago, so if I sell would be without the remote.

the difference between playing on a hdtv and sdtv isn't that freaking big aslong as you use a component cable.

If you have component inputs for your old TV, you can use that. SDTV with component cables looks very good, and surpasses the brightness and colour contrast of most HDTVs by a lot. I would recommend not getting the HDTV, because to be honest, it's not about the graphics.I would get the PS3 and play with your friend as soon as possible!! HDTV models will improve by the time you're ready to get one anyways!

I have games from both PS2 and PS, so which would be the best PS3 to get? Would it be better to keep the PS2? I haven't play my PS games seems I got the PS2, the reason is just because I thought the memory card would work for the PS games, but I figure it didn't, and I was then never able to find the PS memory cards anywhere. I gave my PS to my younger brother, with all the games I really did not wanted to play anymore. My younger brother ask me many times when I would be getting a PS3 as he is expecting me to give him my PS2. I got my PS 2 like almost a year after it come out, there was a price cut, and the store I got, was giving 10% discount to all purchase if you got a credit card from the store, which I did, but never use it, as I don't really use credit cards. It still plays great, I have no complains about it, the first two years, I think I petty much play an average of 8 hours a day, so I definitely got my money worth out it a long time now. I have always being lucky with my consoles, I have bought a new Atari, a new Nintendo, a new super Nintendo and so on, and none of my consoles ever die on me, and I never had any problem with either, but petty much all consoles I gave to my brother except the last one, have fail in either of my brothers hand. Maybe they don't take as good of care as I do, or maybe I just choose the right time to switch to the new generation. This is the first time I wait for so long to get a new console, but I have also take a long brake playing games. The reason I didn't get it sooner was petty much the price. It was just too much, but now is petty much on the same price as when I got the PS2, so the only thing on the way was the missing HDTv, I guess I could always bring to a friends house and play there.

What does each component cable does? Like my TV has blue, but not green, I wonder what I would miss out.

Lol you have QUITE a dilemma. But there is no question, you should get a PS3, the difference to me is not huge. Especially since you're not getting HD channels and no Bluray movies.

I just check my TV again, it looks exactly like this:

TV connectors

However, instead of green, the connector is yellow, but the writing is exactly the same, and the connectors are exactly at the same spot, there is a Y next to the plug that in my TV is yellow. I have always used that Y on video 2 with the yellow cable, and I have never had a problem. I wonder if the yellow connector also can be used as a green, seems I check the manual of the TV, and it ask to plug three cables, it does not tell about the colors, but it says to not plug either yellow connector, or the s-video one (even know is kind of dam to ask for the s-video one, seems there is no s-video on video-2).

There is also a video 3, but is on front of the TV, and there is only the yellow red and white.

Personally, I think the PS3 is fully enjoyable on a good quality SDTV. Sure you won't be getting the most out of it, but it's still great looking in most instances. And since you don't intend to take advantage of blu-ray or HDTV channels, I think it woul dbe a waste to throw out your SDTV and blow all your money on the HDTV.

The three on the very left is just for the regular cables the PS3 comes with. The 5 to the right of that of for component cables, which you can buy for about $20. With these you can get 720p and 1080i if your tv allows it.

I sensed some confusion here. Your Video 2 is Component (Green - Blue - Red and White - Red) which is better display than Video 1. Component cable picture, plug all 5 connector into Video 2 section.

The manual you stated is for Video 1 setup, it can only display Composite (Red - White - Yellow) OR S-Video. In other words, Video 1 can't display Composite AND S-Video at the same time.

You see the green connector on video 2 on this picture? My is not green is yellow, however it has the mark Y and everything. I'll go take a picture and show you what I mean.

I had the same dilemma when I was deciding about getting a 360 at release. Eventually I had both the tv and the 360, using my original tv to watch tv while I played my 360. Yes I'm extremely lazy, but it is awesome. Especially if you like sports, I had both tvs on cable so I could watch two games at once (March madness, football season/watching my fantasy players).

Now I'm debating between upgrading my old tube to get another HDTV because they are cheap(er than before) or getting a PS3.

Why not keep it as a back up? or if you want just put a add in the local paper. id ask 200$ for its but put in the add price is negotable. The TVis worth 200$ im sure. problem is most people are not in the market for a SD CRT. you can get 32 HD LCDs for 350 bucks now. so idsay if you could get even 150$ youd be doing just fine. i dont know if id even but it4 sale on like e bay as the shiping cost would prob kill you.

I used to play my ps3 on a similar tv (also toshiba) when I first got it. A few months later I bought an hdtv 40in with an hdmi cable. When I plugged it in and saw what it looked like I was astounded at the diffence. Anyone who says any different or whocan only tell a little difference between the 2 is probably half blind.

It will definitely be worth it. To get rid of the old tv I would ask people you know if they would like tobuy it off you for cheap.

You know I was just thinking, when I got a PS2, I open up a Target credit card, and I saved 10% of on my first purchase, so I got a PS2 5 games, and an extra joystick. I wonder if there is other stores in which do that, as I cannot longer on that on Target. The best thing was also that I got in New Hampshire, in which there is no sale taxes. I'm Florida right now, and sale taxes are an extra 7% which suxs. It might brake me, but if I knew I could save some money, I would just get both. Would 800, 900 do it?

Hmm, after I reply I remember, I'm going to Boston on Thanksgiving, and from Boston to New Hampshire is petty close by. I probable save more money if I wait and get the PS3 then, I doubt it would be a good idea to bring a TV on the plane though, specially that I would like at list a 32 inches to replace my 36.

Just bring it into a second hand store and see what you can get for it, or you can drop it off at Goodwill
