i traded my 20 gig for 60 gig to get the wi fi, now im all set and connected with my 60 gig im startin to experience the wi fi mischief right now, connection not being stable and my wireless access point is 10 feet away from ps3 means its not from my acces point, its from this ps3...is the network having problems right now, anybody else experiencing this?diabolikskillz
If your access point is 10 feet away, just hook it up with an ethernet cable. Its the most reliable way to play online with out any problems.
Are you getting a message off and on that it's been disconnected from the access point? If so, I had the same problem with mine. I think some routers just aren't too compatible with the PS3's wifi; I ended up replacing my router and it worked fine afterward. Going wired would also probably fix it, but I'm assuming since you upgraded to get the wifi that's not an option.Abby88

ooo...what router did you have before? And what router did you replace it with?
Has a game ever dropped out on you (online multiplayer)?
I think you'll find the problem is something to do with when the wifi is in idle.
Ie if you are logged in to the PSN (Playstation Network) but not actually using the internet/wifi connection it tends to drop in and out.
Â
I've experienced this occasionally but only when i havnt been using the connection. I've never had it drop out whilst playing or downloading and I've gone 6 hour stretches with this beast, so I am almost certain it is to do with the idle of the wifi.
Â
BTW my router/access point is about 2 metres away on the other side of a wall but still gives me 90% strength.
Â
I've never had a problem with it with the laptop and psp from further away with as little strength as 65% at the fartherest point so I think it is purely a PS3 thing with wifi idle.
Wifi is flakey on any system, which is why smart people dont use it. If your router is so close, use ethernet.teebeenzSHHHHHH! YOU! He wants it to go to 11 not louder 10!!!
What does your Nat type show as 2 or 3? Go to Test Connection to find out. You also need UPnP enabled. I found the below info useful...
http://www.orpheusinternet.co.uk/support/ps3/index.html
Also make sure your UPnP is enabled (your router help section should explain how to find and enable this).
I just set mine up and it was fairly straight forward once I'd found where the UPnP settings were and had used the above website for the ports, so I thought I'd share.
Note the website even has specific settings for certain PS3 games.
Thanks

actually I've had this same problem, it's not PS3's fault though.
It is how your network is set up.
How many computers you have connected to your network?
I really can't ask you your settings but elaborate on your setup
Â
automatic? manual ips?Â

I had no problem with mines maybe he needs to check his modem settings and speed
My wifi works perfectly fine on my PS3 and my wireless access point is on the other side of my house which is like 2000 square feet. You might have some interference somewhere, like 2.4 GHz wireless telephones (it will kill a connection almost everytime the phone rings).

have you actually ran a speed test on it? It may seem fine, but slower than it should be. Im a network engineer that is obsessed with actually testing wi-fi connections. Both me and my co-worker are coming up with slower than normal speeds on our PS3s (two different houses). I ended up just using an ethernet cable and the speed improved. Granted it's not slow as molasses, but it could be faster.  Â

That's funny. I am a network engineer too, but actually I quite to go back to school for Pharmacy (more money where I live). Anyways, no I haven't ran any speed tests. I haven't experienced any problems, so I never felt that there was a need. I might have to do it just out of curiosity.
i got a netgear here, about 15 ft away through a wall and its at 85% all the time. never lost a connection yet
igot a westell model 327w and it works great

The pay is pretty much good for that position all over the United States, like for instance here on the eastcoast they make like $40.00 an hr and up (If my calculation is correct that is alot of damn money).
