Are you getting a message off and on that it's been disconnected from the access point? If so, I had the same problem with mine. I think some routers just aren't too compatible with the PS3's wifi; I ended up replacing my router and it worked fine afterward. Going wired would also probably fix it, but I'm assuming since you upgraded to get the wifi that's not an option.

If your access point is 10 feet away, just hook it up with an ethernet cable.  Its the most reliable way to play online with out any problems.

Mine didnt really work either. but it was like..20 feet away. Now its like 2 feet away lol, so I use ethernet. WiFi isnt that great though anyways, unless you HAVE to use it.

Wifi is flakey on any system, which is why smart people dont use it. If your router is so close, use ethernet.

Has a game ever dropped out on you (online multiplayer)?

I think you'll find the problem is something to do with when the wifi is in idle.

Ie if you are logged in to the PSN (Playstation Network) but not actually using the internet/wifi connection it tends to drop in and out.

I've experienced this occasionally but only when i havnt been using the connection. I've never had it drop out whilst playing or downloading and I've gone 6 hour stretches with this beast, so I am almost certain it is to do with the idle of the wifi.

BTW my router/access point is about 2 metres away on the other side of a wall but still gives me 90% strength.

I've never had a problem with it with the laptop and psp from further away with as little strength as 65% at the fartherest point so I think it is purely a PS3 thing with wifi idle.

I have never experienced any problems with my wi-fi connection, i would imagine it must be a compatability issue with the ps3 and your router.

I use the Datel Wifi Max as my Access Point and it works great, I bought that last year for my PSP's Wifi and now I use it for my PS3 as well. It's very cheap to buy and has great range.

Just make sure your Router is close to the PS3 or vice versa.

What does your Nat type show as 2 or 3?  Go to Test Connection to find out.  You also need UPnP enabled.  I found the below info useful...

http://www.orpheusinternet.co.uk/support/ps3/index.html

Also make sure your UPnP is enabled (your router help section should explain how to find and enable this).

I just set mine up and it was fairly straight forward once I'd found where the UPnP settings were and had used the above website for the ports, so I thought I'd share.

Note the website even has specific settings for certain PS3 games.

Thanks

Interesting; I've used Apple Airport wireless products for years now and haven't had a single issue.  All of my wireless consoles, desktops, and notebooks have never dropped out during this time.

I guess I'm one of the lucky un-smart people then?

Why do you need to port forward by hand if you have UPnP enabled?  The point of UPnP is it handles the port forwarding/triggering for you; you shouldn't need to port forward anything manually.

The only problem I've ever experienced with WiFi is when I'm running the game / server. Because your clients will constantly cut out from the internet spikes (Even if you may not feel them yourself). Other then that, again I have no problems with my D-Link (Well besides my firmware messed up and it killed the iframes so it's hard to find the buttons).

I have had no problems with my wifi. My router is 15 feet away and through a wall with a closet and the connection strength is about 80%. Sometimes when I am not doing anything online I will get a message that says the connection has been dropped, but that is pretty rare and it has never happened to me when I am on the web, PS Store, or playing online. I use a Netgear router.

The wifi isn't that strong, so I had to buy a new router with the signal boosters.  I also had to set my PS3 on a DMZ so it bypassed the internal firewall, now I have no network problems

actually I've had this same problem, it's not PS3's fault though.

It is how your network is set up.

How many computers you have connected to your network?

I really can't ask you your settings but elaborate on your setup

automatic?  manual  ips?

Wi-Fi sucks on the PS3 imo.  I run speed tests on my wireless laptops then a speed test on my PS3's wireless (8 feet away) and it is slow.  Hopefully a firmware update will make it more stable.

My wifi works perfectly fine on my PS3 and my wireless access point is on the other side of my house which is like 2000 square feet.  You might have some interference somewhere, like 2.4 GHz wireless telephones (it will kill a connection almost everytime the phone rings).

have you actually ran a speed test on it?  It may seem fine, but slower than it should be.  Im a network engineer that is obsessed with actually testing wi-fi connections.  Both me and my co-worker are coming up with slower than normal speeds on our PS3s (two different houses).  I ended up just using an ethernet cable and the speed improved.  Granted it's not slow as molasses, but it could be faster.

That's funny. I am a network engineer too, but actually I quite to go back to school for Pharmacy (more money where I live).  Anyways, no I haven't ran any speed tests. I haven't experienced any problems, so I never felt that there was a need.  I might have to do it just out of curiosity.

I'm two floors up from my broadband router and I've only ever had one problem before and that was because my mom knocked it over and I had to plug it back in. Other than that it's been perfect, no dropped online games or anything.

That's funny. I am a network engineer too, but actually I quite to go back to school for Pharmacy (more money where I live).

The pay is pretty much good for that position all over the United States, like for instance here on the eastcoast they make like $40.00 an hr and up (If my calculation is correct that is alot of damn money).
