I was browsing Immersion's website after hearing the news of the settlement with Sony where I dug up some old information which may be relevent to the new ways in which rumble will be incorporated into PlayStation devices (Controllers, Steering Wheels, "SIXAXIS Lightsaber", etc.). The link is above and here's one review on the technology:

Immersion Unveils Next-Gen Rumble Technology, Gamepro.com, June 16, 2006
by Sid Shuman
“I personally experienced Immersion's new rumbling technology yesterday, and I have to say that it's a major, major step in the right direction. Not only are the rumbles stronger, they feel more detailed and crisp. A nearby explosion sends powerful shockwaves rippling through your hands; wielding a lightsaber produces a pleasant "humming" sensation; and machinegun fire feels downright violent. It's ten times better than the rumbling on the PS2 or Xbox 360.”

What you guys think? Seems logical to me. :)

I thought Sony said rumble was a last generation feature? It is really funny how they keep changing their tunes.

I'm just glad its back in time for MGS4. Rumble is always incorporated correctly in an MGS game. If anyone should use this technology, it should be Kojima. Come to think of it, I think Kojima is behind this settlement...hmm... Guess he's happy though right?

I thought Microsoft said that 1080p wasn't needed? It's funny how they keep changing their tunes.

If they successfully incorporate the rumble feature in the Sixaxis before MGS4 launches, you can bet your ass off that Kojima is going to make use of it!(He's been wanting the rumble feature since they announced it was gone!)

i've never liked rumble, i've always turned it off.

but if it it was more precise and actually added depth to the game i might buy into it.

Personally, I'm wondering how multi-plat baseball games are going to work because the rumble is used to show when you are pitching out of the strike zone...

Really and what could be 10x better? Is the controller going to act like a Force feedback steering wheel? It's rumble and frankly how much better can it get. Sony is just trying to justify putting rumble back in after paying off Immersion. They were talking about how rumble was "last-gen" since they announced the sixaxis. They said a lot of crap about how rumble would mess up the motion control. Now all of a sudden it's the "Next-gen" rumble and it's 10x better. Please they're so full of crap like they usually are.

if the above info holds true to the experience.... i will seriously replace both of my old controllers for these rumbles. to tell you the truth i hated the old rumbles on the ps2 because it never feel right when playing games. sometimes it overshakes the controller and i would end up turning it off because it was getting annoying and stupid. the ps3 version has to be better or else it'll suck.

Umm not the ones that count buddy.

BTW if I wanna get a 360 game I'd play it on the PC (alot of them are coming out for that)

Bet you can't use tilt for those games?
BTW PS3 has more rounding gaming other than the rated T or M shooters and bloody games all the time.  (of course there are exceptions)

Well, my PC isn't high end and i think i rather play with the controller than mouse and keyboard.  Plus they don't even have tilt for NFS, it's basically the same except the Xbox360 version have more feel to the game with rumble feature.

Even though they haven't officially said that rumble has returned, they've gotta put it back in right? I mean Kojima and Oblibion guy have said it, not to mention the fans.

wow, I never thought of that... it's true- in mvp baseball 06 I play with the white ball cusor off (for a more realistic game) and I use the rumble to paint the corners. Rumble is more useful than I thought. I haven't played ne of the next gen games either so I wonder how they would do that. Man, please I hope it comes back...

Sixaxis + Rumble = complete domination

I honestly don't really care. I don't miss rumble now anyway. I won't mind having it back, but really, it was just a glorified gimmick.
