I'm thinking about importing a white psp (Japan), the only thing that worries me is not being able to update the firmware.  Does anyone know if updating is possible, once i get it in the US, and if it is possible to update, is it difficult?

Keep in mind i'm not a hacker, I don't want to play homebrews (Dark_Alex i'm not) :) I want a white one because it looks cooler to me.

Updating won't be a problem. The Network Update feature will give you a ***-PSP firmware download.
Plus, I believe they are mutually compatible anyway. i seem to recall installing a japanese firmware on my psp with no problem (without hax)...

Yes you can install any Langueage firmware you want but it will void your warranty. Also say for instance you install japanses firmeware 3.10 and then you decide you want the English 3.10....you cant switch, you would have to wait for a new firmware update e.g. 3.11.

You should be able to do it with Network Update on the PSP. And you can also do it from the official Japanese update website. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.jp.playstation.com/psp/update/ud_01.html&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpsp%2Bupdate%2Bjapan%26hl%3Den

I have a white psp which I personally bought from Japan, for updating your firmware just go to http://www.jp.playstation.com/psp/update/ud_04.html the only thing you can't do with your psp is watch UMD movies because they're region locked. Who wants to watch UMD movies anyway? :? if you want you can always import Japanese UMD movies lolz.
