Hello People here ist he thing.

I have a 60GB since more than a year now, and i can't take it to SCEA for a replacement anymore.

this is what happened.

i was playing MGSO with no problem (1080p with HDMI cable), I turned it off for a couple of hours when my brother came and asked me to take the PS3 to his place, he does not have a HDTV as I do, hence i had to switch the PS3 to SD, to save some time i connected my PS component cable to my PS3 so i could do the switch. I took my sixaxis and tried to turn the PS3 on, that never happened. the power LED was blinking red, no image, no sound, in neither video channels.

if I turned it Off and then back On the power LED switch to orange, then immediatly to green and right after that to blinking red, that's the only thing that happens all the time.

What can I do? any advise? Is there a way to know what happened?

Your PS3 is dead.

You sir, have officially become a victim to the yellow light.

unfortunately this advice isn't that great because it could cost money that may be a waste, but if you have a blank 2.5 inch SATA internal harddrive i'd pop it in and try that, i remember reading somewhere on usplaystation.com forums that sometime if your hard drive dies it gives the death light. this isn't very accurate but if it's possible i'd give it a try.

Call sony because no one realy knows what that light means outside of hardware failure. For some reason the guide book doesn't mention a yellow light/

Dude, I'm really sorry about the bad news. I guess that the XBOX does have a better warranty to begin with. It really does suck when something goes wrong or breaks when you never broke it yourself. Try calling Sony to see what they say about the problem.

Ran across this, it may or may not work.

Yesterday I woke up to bad news, I turned on my PS3 by the switch in the back and about 2 seconds later it beeped three times and the red light started flashing. After trying to turn it on for about 1/2 an hour I realized that it wasn't going to turn on...

I did some searching on the web and found nothing but 360 had the same problem. Here's the interesting thing I found a 'fix', all I did was take out the hard disk, and turn it on to get my game out. Then I put the HD back in and turned it on. It worked. I booted up a game and the same damn red flashing light came back on.

I repeated the steps and checked to see if the game would work now, and it did! I'm currently using my PS3 to write this. I wanted to let you guys over at QJ.net because I couldn't find a fix anywhere and maybe if you post this I'll end up helping someone else.

Some of you should learn reading comprehension skills, he never posted he has a yellow light.

If nothing is popping on the screen, and he doesn't have a HD TV. You probably just hold down the ON/OFF switch, which should reset your settings. It should pop up.....But if your getting the yellow light, its dead :(

I had a problem trying to turn on my PS3 after owning it for only a week. It would beep and then shut back off after a few seconds.

It turned out that I had plugged the console into a switched outlet (for lamps), and the outlet was controlled by a dimmer switch that was set to low. After I figured out my error, the PS3 booted correctly, but it broke my heart that I put a new PS3 through that low power boot attempt. Thankfully, the PS3 is now 2 years and 2 months old (it was a launch model) and it still runs fine :)

I told my story in case it was possible that there was a similar issue for you (bad power outlet or switched outlet, damaged cord). Also, did you hold the power button down on the console until it beeped a second time (to reset the video back to SD)?

I certainly will. mine is a 60 GB as well... haven't figured out a thing. I tried removing the Hard drive, power it on and then placed the HD back in, same thin over and over again (with or without HD) it seems that sony will be the last option, this scks 'cus in my country the "official Sony Support" is around $250 USD (doing the convert) well again if anyone figures something out pls let me know. here goes a Youtube video thet will show exactly what the PS3 does http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLPKXCWK5mU (it's not mine but its exactly the same)

OK ppl here goes what happened...

After a long search in the web for a fix I realized that a specialist was the only option, so I took it to one. He was actually able to fix it (after a while tough).

The guy told me that the real problem was overheating, having the PS3 in a cornered place and/or over a doily (wich my mom placed, and I don't blame her for this) cause the overheating, making some kind of internal board to bend and "unsolder" a circuit so he needed to fix that, it is fixable and expensive, but in the end I finally have my PS3 back with me and it's been over 2 months w/o a problem.

My PS3 is now placed vertical, no doily under it, in a specific lil' table for it.

Cool! (as it can be)

Dunno if that's the same problem for all the 'yellow lights' but that's my story.

Yea, do this first. When changing from HD to SD and vice versa, you have to reset the display settings. Don't throw it in the trash just yet.

...

Drat... foiled again by a necro'd post.
