Improved blu-ray playback?

I know the ps3 is already a really good blu-ray player though I have some bad news if you haven't heard. There is a blu-ray player that costs as less as the ps3 at 499 (that's not the bad news) Though what really hurts me to hear is that it has better video playback quality than the ps3!!!!

yes but look at the PS2 and pretty much the xbox

they both play dvds but there are auctual DVD Players out on the market that supposedly play DVD better than the ps2 and xbox.

so if sony wants to "out-do" thier own ps3 in terms of BRD quality, let them, i mean, one, are we really gonna notice the difference. Example: how many people bring people over to their house and someone says, "hey i have that same blue ray movie and it looks wayyy better on my $1000 dollar blu ray plaler"? not alot. the point is that the blu ray quailty of the ps3 is amazing period. and if there was a possibily to increase the playback software side im sure it will be done, eventually....

Well, I, like many people, spent about $600 on the ps3. Are you saying you're fine with blu-ray players that are cheaper already having better video playback quality?! It's a $500 blu-ray player, not $1000! Seriously, if the ps3 can't keep up to par with blu-ray players of the same or less price range, it's hardly worth $600 (or maybe even $500) Though I'm confident sony will look into improving the ps3 as a blu-ray player...

1) it comes from a blog, not an official site.

2) maybe it's his TV that has a problem, not the PS3 being inferior to the stand alone player

3) even if there's a slight difference, the PS3 is not a stand alone player and sooner or late a player would be better

Slightly better video playback is the only thing that standalone has on the PS3. It's lacking in other important areas such as audio output, and the ability to handle discs that incorporate java, such as PoTC.NiHM

yeah, I agree, it's a really gimped blu-ray player. Though the video playback, while slightly better, is still definitly noticable better which really seems to annoy me =\

yeah I know but already? And at the same price?! I love my ps3 as a blu-ray player, it's better or at least as good as many blu-ray players but hearing that (better video playback) is not good to hear IMO...

Go sell your ps3 and buy one of those magnificent standalone players then.crck

TC you really need to be reasonable about this - a $500 blu-ray stadnalone player vs. PS3 ( $500 now, u paid $600 )

Standalone wins video output ...

PS3 wins
- audio playback
- BD-J support ( not 100% but will be 100% with firmware update )
- better updates
- better DVD upscaler

In the end when you add to the fact that PS3 can improve its BD playback over time i believe its a much better investment ... + it also plays games you know ...
