How come they have to be pessimistic about Home?

Seeing Jeff upset that there will be porno in Home and he's upset that there will be bootleg of movies in your apartment.... :|

And he's upset that there will be too many ads? Seriously, wasn't the PS3 forum was filled with Xbox 360 ads? :|

Seriously, are they too much of a Xbox 360 fanboy?

What are your thoughts?

Hey, I thought Home was going to change their opinions for the PS3. Now it seemed like they're bashing it because there is a feature that is free and seemed to very fun to play. It really irked me.

If there is any porn in Home it would be strictly kept to the private areas people set up- anyone trying to put it in public would be dealt with. I don't think you will see that many bootleg movies- again, it would be kept to private areas and wouldn't be much different than inviting friends over to watch a DVD at home. We'll more likely be seeing YouTube clips or some bits of game footage in public areas.

Well he had some valid points. Im not interested in tons of adds everywhere. I hate adds.
And why go through the trouble of watching a movie in home when you can do it in the media bar.

Ads are a part of our culture. Ads are everywhere, even in GS. Maybe not for you considering you're paying for this site. And since Home is free of course, ads is one of the factor to replace the cost. And if you want to watch a movie, then you don't have to go to Home. Simple as that. I think his name is Jeff, just pretty spoke the same way how most Xbox 360 fanboys spoke about Home.

White backgrounds makes my eyes hurt. I was shocked too when Jeff and the rest were bashing Home. Jeff said it would be too many ads. In Gamespot we have to watch a 30 second long commercial before a 20 second gameplay video. It's better with a banner with a EA logo on it or something then paying 60 bucks every year just to play online.

I disagree in that the gamespot team seems disapointed that users can upload porn or pirtated movies. They are more into what their achievements are going to look like and how the functionality is going to compare with the other consoles. I think they are 'staring down' the fact that they themselfs are going to have to upload all their porn now that it's posible.

You can share the video with others through your media bar? Home allows for media sharing while preventing piracy. Did the adds seems intrusive in the demo? Didn't Sony directly in their Q/A to the 3'rd party interest groups tell that intrusive adverts won't be accepted? YES they did but apparently Jeff the Game reporter is clueless about what's going on. :? Also the appartments only exists on people's HDDs, would you have Sony to go through the content on your HDD? Gamespot must quit hiering thir "reporters" from SW and instead get some who actually does journalistic work before opening their mouths.

what I can't get over is the statement why you'd waste your time in Home when you could do things faster off the XMB. I mean, Rich said he spent more time designing Miis than he has been playing Zelda and face it, up until now, Miis are pointless Also, they just seemed very uninformed and like they haven't really watched the footage. But whatever, Jeff is still rad

Jeff should have been doing reporting long enough to know that there's a huge difference between valid concerns and grasping for straws while overlooking already debunked doom and gloom predictions. I thought this was the reason why he quit System Wars back in the days (respected him for it) and not because people made fun of his weight.

there just a bunch r2tards, first of all how can they really judge whether there will be to many adds or not when it's not out yet. Secondly the beuty of home is that adds can be done in a less obtrusive way like billboards in the world or posters hanging in the wall in publuic places. Like in the real world i'll see the banner but nothing is stopping me from walking right past it or completely ignoring it. Game companies can even create theaters or homes of their own which they can provide demo's, trailers and and other free stuff. Another way for Sony to use adds is to get s sponsorship branded items like nike clothing, or other real world items and give it to people as free items. This way the companies get there virtual products out as advertising and we consumers can get premium items for free. There are many ways to do this ad thing with out it being as obtrusive as they make it sound. Gamespot seams to off lossed all their objectivity and seem too intent on trying to keep X box 360 the leading console.

Nah that would be going too far, Jeff not that long ago ~8 months (time is relative) Jeff hyped the PS3 and said that Sony could wait with releasing the PS3 till summer '07 and still blow away the 360 without breaking sweat.  yup, i agree with you, using the video in  HOME allows you to share the video or music with friends that visit your apartment, whats the negetive side of that. Plus home is so much more then just playing videos, you can do social interactions, mini games, watch trailers and other stuff. My question is that if your already in HOME isn't easier to just to be able to to watch your videos in HOME rather then having to exit Home then go through your media bar.
Jeff's whole gripe only works if the only reason people go into Home is to watch the video in their hard drives, but i think HOME is about giving users a whole encompasing experience.  I hope Jeff was just playing devil's advocate and tossing out possible HOME problems, cause if it's what he really believes then i've lost respect for him.

^ Exactly. From the first PS3 info in 2005, gamespot was very unbiased, you couldn't see that anyone prefers one console or another, Jeff Gerstmann is the first on gamespot whi bought PS3, while others had X360s. But, in the last couple of months, everything changed drastically. It become very clear that everyone prefers X360, and in exactly the same months, PS3 just got better and better. So, why they are bashing PS3 in its best time ? I couldn't think of anything than Microsofts money, as they call it marketing.

sorry for my English...

Exactly. I actually love the big screen "TV-adds" idea in home, it might make me stumble upon games/movies I'd never pay attention to otherwise (never watch random trailers just for the fun of it) and with the proximity chat I'll be able to hear the reations from others in the crowd watching the trailers. It should also be a great help to smaller devs who can't afford real TV adds and these will only be watched by gamers who got the console.

I think it will be cool to see wether Sony Will be able to make Home into a feature rich environment, that has good servers and quallty items, yet without sacrificing its usabilty. Everyone knows It will be hard for sony to support a service that is making them loose money and so to sustain Home they have to find ways to use ads and third party partnerships to cover the costs. I think the jumbotrons idea of yours playing trailers is a good idea. They can also use this in conjunction with virtual shops that offer you free tokens that can use in your apartment if you visit them. I think the whole key to this ad thing is giving people the freedom of choice. Hopefully everything works out, cause it's a great concept

Yes they can have videos for each downloadable level running and 3D models of downloadable charactermodels (no the same quality but still). I hope that they really take advantage of the CELL's real time compression capabilities opening for people with slower connections too (fast enough for online gaming but not for direct HD streams). The more people in home the merrier.

Oh almost forgot game events streamed to the big screens like boxing matches in Fight Night or F1 races. Events I'd completely overlook on the XMB, especially because there would be no strangers to cheer with. Don't feel like asking people on my friends list to watch a virtual (true :P) football match with me.

Yah i actually think that it's sony's plan to have developers make their own homes or shops, like Ubisoft has one, the next door is EA, each giving you special things to do in their "Homespaces".

Yah that would be cool, like EA could actually make Fight Night customizable characters and a HOME boxing ranking system. Then you can have the number 1 ranked Fight Night Player fighting the number 2 ranked player battling it out live on a the big screens in home, even multiplayer  basketball games like NBA live. Don't know if that is reall possible but one can always hope in the future.

It would call for users and servers with really high bandwidth but having a real audience cheering for one would be worth it, even worth the graphical downgrade (IMO).

I'm with you on that.

Well HOME, whether some people like it or not, will open up some possibly great oppurtunities for Sony to explore. I'm personally exited to see its evolution in the comng years and hopefully it will just get better in  PS4.

You still care about GS opinion?LOL! They are 360 fanboys. Just go to IGN for news and come back here to post.

Ditto. I'm tired of Gamespots bias against PS3. It's ridiculous.

very true. very true. I tried my hand (1st time!) on the PS3 at a store, andi was playing RR7, and it was great! I don't get the hate.I mean, all the games you loved on the PS2 will still be on the PS3, and then some, so why the hate? is GTA NOT going to be on PS3? is FFXIII NOT going to be on PS3? is GT5 NOT going to be on PS3? Goodness, Sony is the 3rd biggest developer in the world, with some of the hottest 3rd parties... why the hate?

How come they have to be pessimistic about Home?

Seeing that fat guy, I forgot his name, is upset that there will be porno in Home and he's upset that there will be bootleg of movies in your apartment.... :|

And he's upset that there will be too many ads? Seriously, wasn't the PS3 forum was filled with Xbox 360 ads? :|

Seriously, are they too much of a Xbox 360 fanboy?

What are your thoughts?

If Greg Kasavin were still here, he would eloquently regale us all with his intelligent, good-natured, forward-looking enthusiasm.Tiberius

I'd agree wholeheartedly. I wish Greg was still here-- a good natured, unbiased opinion, who's love for games in terms of knowledge and fairness far exceeded of those who worked at GameSpot. I know a man is entitled to his opinion, but if Home doesn't excite you that I don't know what will.

I think Jeff's just making a invalid point-- advertisements are a daily way of life. You see them on TV, on the internet, when you go around town anyone should be accoustmed to it.

Do not claim that Jeff can't make mistakes, just look at his MGS and THP reviews. Also many people here aren't old enough to become game reviewers or got higher educations. And he is not talking the truth as the things he listed have been debunked before he even stated them. You should read the Q/A list released to 3'rd party interest groups. As a "reporter" Jeff should have been aware of that list.
