Is any one REALLY that offended by Resident Evil 5??

I think this has been said before but yesterday I saw on my yahoo news,and it had somthing about the top 10 most controversial games and they had some of the old games like doom and postal that every one made a big deal of, but what caught my eye was RE5 and it said that people were protesting it beacuse you play a white antagonist killing hordes of african zombies. That kinda got me a little tiked off because do we really live in a time where video games cant be set in an african environment and if it is the player's character has to be black to kill black zombies? People cry 'RACIST!!' at every chance they get. I've just grown numb to it....and being white I've learned to just keep my mouth shut about anything even potentially controversal. Safer that way :)

No one said anything about killing white zombies nor the spanish zombies from RE4... I don't see a difference here, just a new game in a *GASP* African locale. Of course there will be African zombies!

I could name a few games with an African-american being able to kill "White people" and these were not slapped with "racism".

I haven't finished the game but i'm not offended. I'm more disappointed because of the setting. Because they put it in africa and keep you in the daylight so much it seems alot less scary then res4. Plus to me if the zombies didn't have that parasite coming out of their mouths they don't really look that much like zombies. I hope that in the next one they go back to a city type of scene instead of latin and african villages. It just connects more with me when they are in a city type of environment with sky scrapers.

We could all consider the Africans in RE5 to be Russians, but it still doesn't change the fact that you're killing Africans.

Either way, it doesn't bother me, and those people who are bothered by it are too sensitive.

I'm white, but one of my good friends is black, and I can say with all honesty, that he would have no problem coming over to my house and watching me play this game, or playing it himself. This is just stupid...

Very true, I hate itthat everyone crys if someone says a racist comment, and RE5 is just ridiculus. If RE5 had a black protagonist killing white zombies there would be no discussion, but as it is the other way around there is so much controversy. I mean Africa is just a place in the world, just becuase a lot of them are black it doesn't mean no games can be set there.

didn't bother me at all. No matter what place RE is set, are at they(the infected) all get shot in the face. But on a sensitive note, I could almost understand the issues people are blowing up about. I wouldn't call it racist but ignorant. They should have known someone would have a problem with this.

i bet they introduce a new character in RE6(since they are starting over) and he wil be of a different race to avoid the flake that this screwed up world gives them.

I'm Afro-American and I can honest say.......HELL NO!!!!! I know the history of RE, so I know that there is no racism intended. The story is huge and has many twist,so naturally it has to span the globe. That's the real problem here...most people aren't familiar with the story....and it's not just blacks making a fuss about this guys!!!!

Hmmmm.... This is indeed a possibility...

Sadly - there are people in the world, true racists, who have caused certain groups of people harm and suffering in the past. Now because of those people there is a tendency for over sensitivity to racism and it is usually not even the 'offended' groups who make complaints, but militant do good type people who seem to be completely unaware that instead of healing the rift between races, they are increasing it by being so oversensitive and vocal in their critisism of absolutly anything that could possibly give them a soapbox to stand on.

If i ever hear anybody say that the game Resident Evil 5 is racist towards black people - i will ask them to qualify that statement, even though:

2of the main protaganists are of black origin and they are portrayed as being no less able, intelligent or righteous as the main white protagonist

The story is set in a part of Africa where the general population is of black origin, therefore it makes sense that should a biohazard of and type occur in such an area those infected would be predominatly black.

I would then ask them if they think it would better for Africa to be left out of all future games, books, films and songs just in case one or two of them were portrayed in a light that offends them?

Then I would kick that person 12 times in the boobs.

Agreed, but I can honestly say that not all the people in the Afro-American community are that freak-in overly sensitive(most of us have more productive things to do)lol. That's why it's good for children to learn about and interact with other cultures....they eventually become adults who aren't narrow minded(and super-sensitive)lol....and that applies to "ANY" community!!!!

People are blowing it out of proportion, the setting in africa means the locals are black OMGNOWAI?!?!? While most of us don't notice it, the ones that complained about this are the real racists because they see the difference in colour.

Nobody is offended by it as much as they would want others to believe. The fact of the matter is that most people who are offended just want something to be offended about. And being offended isnt enough, they want to make sure everyone else knows they are offended.

Its all a bunch of people with no other lofty purpose in life who want to feel like they are part of some world changing movement.

These same people who cry about equality and the negative representation of minorities ( in this case black being portrayed as zombies who are being killed ) will blatantly ignore the same EXACT situation when you swap said minority for someone from another ethnic group.

this is why i hate people the game takes place in AFRICA who the hell are you supposed to kill asians? and the reason the antagonist is white is because he has been around since the begginning of the RE series
