Is any one REALLY that offended by Resident Evil 5??

You have to really be a sensistive dork to think that this game is racist. When I play all the RE games, I see my enemies as zombies, plain and simple zombies. Not white, spanish, black, whatever. They're infected, they're trying to kill me so I kill them instead. It's the same premise as every other shooter created since the beginning of video games.

its considered racism because blCK PEOPLE WERE IN SLAVERY and were getting killed in slavery, did white people go through that no i think not. I have re5 and im black but it doesnt bother but i dont speak for everyone.

While im not discounting slavery it has been a long time. Anyone who was involved with slavery has died and the notion that the world should have to pay for it in the form of double standards is insane.

Do you personally know anyone who was a slave? Did slavery affect you as a person directly in any way? If it didnt then you pretty much have no more room to complain about it than i do and im not even black.

The only thing that offends me about this game is that after more than 10 years of RE, you can't shoot and run. I don't care if it makes the game intense by just standing there, but come on....

People cry 'RACIST!!' at every chance they get. I've just grown numb to it....and being white I've learned to just keep my mouth shut about anything even potentially controversal. Safer that way :)

I see nothing wrong with people being allowed to discuss the possible subtexts in the game and I am struggling to take Capcom's side on this one.

Although Resident Evil 5 is a very solid game, I think using West Africa's bleak situation as a plot point for a zombie horror runs the risk of trivialising the serious problems in that side of the world. Especially if we are talking about places such as the Ivory Coast where violence and arms dealing (both of which RE5 touch upon) are a very common occurance.

I am going to have to say you are stupid. The Jews have suffered persecution for thousands of years. In addition, have gone through two documented genocides... (And if you are of the Judeo-Christian faith many more) The Africans were slaves for a few hundred years. The Native Americans population was taken from over 12 million to less than 100,000 in less than 300 years. I would rather be a slave than have over 90% of my people systematically exterminated. Many still live in sub standard environments. (aka reservations) How about colonial rule by dozens of European countries??? all in all its still just a game. If your offended by it then dont buy it. I bought RE5 and i love the game.
1 of my friends is of african heritage and we play co op mode all the time and hes not offended by killing african zombies.

Most people over react at the first sign of rascism, extreme violence or drug use in a game because they think that it might effect the people that buy them. Well if thats true then dont buy the game. Im sure you have other things you can spend your hard earned on.

I'm black and I couldn't care less. It bugs me when my people make a big deal out of these things. The story took RE5 there. If the story constantly was around the shooting of black people then it would bug me. In the other games there was a mixture of colors so no big deal. There are also white Africans. Are there any in the game?

Well, Killing aliens seems a lot more racist than killing zombies to me. Not that I'd feel offended killing viciousaliensin a game. (which I've done numerous times BTW). Though invading a planet and killing it's peacefull inhabitants would seem a lot worse than killing zombies in africa IMO.

I dont have a problem with the game. But I just think that the guy was tryin to say (in general) their is a white protagonoist killing black africans american zombies. In the older games when there were white zombies there was still a white protagonist.

I am only junior though. =P I have a lot of links if you need them. Every one of my classes has that argument each semester... By the by not all whites were unjust to their slaves. You are incorrect. Black is now the politically correct term. Because they are so many different places black people come from, many are offended by the phrase "African American". It is correct to simply say "Black" now.

It only offends insecure people with low self-esteem. These people live in their own little world no matter what the background may be. Very fragile people who have opinions like thin ice. How things are going, soon these same people will ask for a special parking space next to handicap.

...For the rest of us... black, white, asian, hispanic, indian or even religion; We carry on with our lives with pride and dignity. You don't earn respect by complaining, the only way to earn it is through confidence. If the person isn't feeling very confident about themselves, then it may be time for one on one therapy.

Above all, pride is not given to you free...it's something you earn in time if do it the 'right' way.

About this game taking place in Africa? I don't see a problem. It's a new setting for the developers. I like the fact games are moving beyond the standard. Only hope controversy wont restrict future ideas for developers.

The game is not racist, nor either is it's characters. It is just a game folks. Some people love to create controversay and conflict and that is not what true gaming is about. IT IS JUST A GAME.

Some folks like to find fault is everyting and if you look hard enough you will find fault in everything. let's move on and let this dog sleep. If you don;t give the devil his due he will just go away - let this go away.
