Is anyone compulsive about keeping their ps3 and games in 'as new condition'?

I know this is a strange topic but does anyone basically treat their ps3 like the crown jewels (or a winning lottery ticket ha) in that every disc is picked up as if made of fine glass and the ps3 is treated like a new-born baby. Its not the fact I have spent money, it is just such a beautiful machine (from certain angles, and mainly when it is upright) and the blu ray discs seem so pristine, I dont want to even get a fingerprint mark on them. As such, playing the ps3 has become more of a pursuit of making sure I dont leave a mark on anything than actually enjoying myself ha I know, sounds kinda sad, I just want to pass this brilliant piece of technology onto my kids one day and say 'look, this is what your dad was playing x years ago...' and make sure its in as good condition then as now

Not so much a compulsion as habit. I've traded in games and systems that have prompted the question "is this a trade or return?"

Im exactly the same. I guess it looks like im being selfish when other people want to pop in a disc and have a go and i say no, but i kinda just wish i could keep the console in a vacuum sealed box and remotely play it without ever touching it! the controller doesnt matter too muc as it can be replaced i guess. All my discs havent got one single mark on them as I have developed a fine art of picking them up from their case so to never touch the surface

Not me. As soon as I opened my PS3 I took a dump on it. I also take sandpaper to the disks untill they're unreadable.

Of course I take care of it! I wouldn't say I'm compulsive about it but I make sure to keep the PS3 clean and try not to muck up the games with scratches and fingerprints.

It's not being compulsive... it's more like taking care of your stuff.

And yeah, I take care of my stuff.

I'm not compulsive about it, but I do like to keep all games/DVD's in tip top shape. I've never had any game or DVD NOT play for me, never had a problem that way. Everytime I trade in games I always get the 'Man you really take care of these games, they're spotless', so I do take care.

I really only get mad at it if someone takes my game out and just sets it down, that irks me.

how is wanting my stuff to stay clean 'compulsive'? i dont want fingerprints or scratches on my games any more then i want them on my TV screen, when you know who to take a disc out of a box and hold it right then its damn hard to scratch or dirty them anyway.

I'm not compulsive, but I take great care of all of my systems and games. The PS3 gets a tad bit more attention simply because it's shiny finish is a dust magnet, so I make sure to wipe it down a bit more then the others, but still, everything of mine is in great shape.

True, but I meant compulsive as in, no one else is allowed to touch them, accidentally touching the disc becomes a felony worthy of the lethal injection and umm you hold the ps3 as if picking up your first baby whilst ontop of the end point of the eiffel tower. That kinda thing....

I hear you man. I wouldn't say I'm compulsive, but I definitely take care of my stuff. Sometimes I'm tempted to buy used games, but I'll always look at the disc before and if I buy. More often than not, these games are totally smudged up and scratched. And I'm talking newer games that came out only a month ago. Who treats their stuff like this?? How lazy can you get that it's too much of a struggle to put the game back in the case. I swear, some of this little punks just throw their games on the floor or on a table or they stack the game discs up on top of each other. This is why I don't like buying used games, plus the developers aren't getting the $ they deserve if you would just buy the game new.

Hum, then no i'm not like that, it gets on my nerves when someone holds one of my games the wrong way but its a mistake they only make once.

I dont buy used games, period. Which is probably fanfare to the ear drums of Sony because they get all my cash! To me there is no better feeling (well apart from the obvious, ahem) of opening a factory sealed game and knowing my fingers are the first to touch it. Also, keeping games in good condition can reap rewards further down the line if the game becomes rare e.g. Halo 2 triple pack or F1 career challenge (pc) or something like that, new copies of these go for 50 or 60 pounds, sometimes more. If your copy is mint you will get a higher price

What is everyone's motivation for taking extra special care of their console and games? Mine is that I want to pass all of my games systems down to my children so that they can enjoy the games that we have enjoyed today. I know in a few years games like burnout revenge, oblivion and ninja gaiden sigma etc will pale in comparison to the graphics on show with the ps4, xbox 720 etc but I hope to bring up my children so that they put gameplay above graphiocs, and will therefore hopefully enjoy games like shadow of the colossus, timesplitters, call of duty 4 etc just as much as we do now. And by keeping my machines in tip-top condition, they will hopefully have a console as good as new

I do that with all my electronics. But since I just purchased the PS3 a few weeks ago, and the thing is a dust magnet, I do find myself caring for it a bit more then the "other" consoles. And it does look good when it is all shiny and clean =).
