Do you think that the frostbite game engine with the exploding scenery the future of FPS and war games.

I think that not all games will be affected but i think there will be more games that use a similar kind of thing. Future battlefield will probably use the same thing but Call of duty is already brilliant so big chances may ruin it.

What are your thoughts?

Talking specifically about the destructible environments, I'd say yes. But the other aspects of the game like large battles and air and land vehicles are not new so no, they've now become part of the present.

I totally agree with the freedom thing with boats and vehicles. However with some game like bad company for example if there is too much freedom then the battle may spread out to far and you may find it difficult to get kills. I prefer close combat and if maps become too big and there are not enough players then nobody will get kills as they are too far apart. This may also cause everyone to camp with snipers or near an objective which can be rather annoying.

No. Bad Company has pre-determined destructible enviroments.

Future games that we know of like Far Cry 2 and Red Faction: Guerilla have dynamic. BC is a joke when it comes to destructible environments.

From what i have played on the demo of bad company this doesnt appear to be the case and i am excited about getting it tomorrow. Bad company is very much a marmite game, u either hate it or you love it.

Have you ever played BF1942, Vietnam, and 2 on the pc? Those maps were huge and awesome, 1942 and bf2 were my fav online shooters of all time.

Yeah, I wouldnt worry about the battlefields being too big. Battlefield 2 on the PC had bigger levels than Bad Company (at least it seemed that way) and there were more than enough kills to go around. There is no lack of action in Bad Company, thats for sure.

A joke? A bit harsh on the criticism arent we? I wouldnt call it a joke at all. It may not be truly dynamic, but it is a very welcome addition to the game. When you are in the game, it is actually difficult to tell that they arent dynamic. All you know is a tank just blew the wall out of the building you were in, etc. lol

Massive levels online would only work under two conditions A. there is a huge audience to match the level design and B. The developers allow for a high number of players to join each game 64+ i think COD4 for the PC has like 64 player multiplayer online and maybe warhawk? not sure on that i only rented the game and i thought it was rubbish

COD4 for the PC has only a few more than on consoles. I know the max on ps3 is 18 but on PC I THINK (Don't quote me) is maybe 32 players max

if it is then the future of console fps gaming is about 4 years old theres nothing really new or innovative about B:BC its your standard shooter and destruction is handled ok in the game but still seems more superficial then anything

i think bullet penetration in cod4 effected gameplay more then destruction here since it is still scripted in a sense only certain parts of a building are destroyed and they are destroyed the same way every-time.

BFBC is reqally nothing new. Counter Strike has something like 60 character maps, and so will Resistance 2. The ability to blow away buildings (for the most part) has already been seen in Red Faction and Black. Vehicles have already been implemented in most games nowadays. BFBC is just a mixture of good things, but somehow managed to be crap.

People need to get off their "Call of Duty 4 is the best game EVAR" high horses and understand that other similar games can be awesome, too. My girlfriend and I have been playing it almost nonstop for the last 3 days.

i dont even have COD4, but ive played it a few times, and after playing BFBC COD4 is better. Most people can appreciate a new and fun game IF it is new and fun. BFBC isnt really new, and it only has a mediocre fun level

sad to say that even after 6 years i prefer my counterstrike over battlefield anyday...i like the whole vehicles thing tho thats a nice feature to have...there's no point of having vehicles in the game if you can't enter them, and the destructible environments is a great idea, but in bad company it seems like it's a joke...i hope games like killzone will take more advantage of that feature...and i'm pretty sure it will

Is Battlefield: Bad Company the future of FPS?

Actually its more like an intermediated step. Destructible environment is a pretty cool thing, but it definetly takes a lot of coding and hard work to do well. Right now though, its still in the infant stage, much like game physics were two years ago and the whole leap with graphics in 2004 with far cry and half life 2. Currently with BC, destructible environment still have no affective factors on gameplay at all. I hope one day destructible environments will be coded so well that the size of the debris will play a difference in how much damage the players would take. Like one large stone will crush you to death and small rocks will hurt you either a little to not at all. As for the future of FPS, I think it will depend on how much people prefer which type. The "battlefield" open world will remain different from the linear style of call of duty for still quite a while, until someday the devs can finally blend the two in and create a true immersive, dramatic, yet dynamic open world battlefield.

Exactly how I felt while playing the demo. It's as if everything was on a grid. Once you figured out the pattern, you could easily guess which section falls out when you shoot a rocket at it. Nothing about it felt dynamic or realsitic at all.

I think Call of Duty 4 set the bar to high, Battlefield is just not up to par. And to the poster mentioning Resistance 2, it's gonna have 60 player multiplayer online, it's gonna be awesome. Plus SOCOM confrontation, that looks sweet. And I'm actually looking forward to Call of Duty 5, it looks alright so far

I would like to see a better game that incorporates some of the same principles.;Destructable environments and vehicles. As far as BF:BC goes, the game sucks but the principles are good. I wouldnt mind having a COD with those elements.

I second that motion. I really like the fact that I can take out an enemy's cover at will. And I actually get frustrated in the levels of BF: BC where I can't destroy the cover, example: the Ruins on "End of the Line" (? - Not sure if it's that one).
