Is COD4 online just a big headshot orgy?

I'm not good at FPS games, but I want to pick up modern warfare because everyone says it's so fun and a lot of my friends have it for their PS3's and I want to play w/ them. However, I have had bad experiences with online shooters. I will try to get used to playing real people online but before I can take more than 4 steps i will get shot in the face. I respawn, and it just keeps happening.

A good example of this is MGS:PO online. It's brutal.

So is COD4 like this? Is it just a contest of who can aim for the head the fastest, or is there actual strategy and teamwork involved online?

Yes and no. There is some teamwork required for some modes, but headshots are either the results of:

1. An extremely good player.

2. A stalker who keeps getting on your case.

3. A hacker.

Try some other modes of COD4 online, or try the campaign on Veteran.

I see. Doesn't sound as bad as mpo (in terms of everyone firing for headshots). I'll look into it.

To answer your question i would say NO. I have been playing CoD4 hours at a time in the last couple of days, and so far its not been a headshot competition in any of the games or matches I've played online. I know what you mean about the MGS online problems, but ive been having alot of fun with this game and the leveling-up system makes you want to keep on playing for a long time. You will still get fragged alot, but from many ways and not just headshots. The only small complaint that i have, which i have gotten used to, is that there is no button that you have to push to communicate with a microphone (like Resistance and Warhawk). You simply talk loud enough and everybody hears you. So nearly anything you say or even the volume from the TV sometimes will be heard by everyone. The lack of a button does make it easier to communicate in the midst of all of the action though, so it isnt too bad.

But overall i would recommend CoD:MW to anyone looking for a fun time online and a great game overall.

Well when I first played online it felt like that, but after a while it seems like the game has slowed down to your pace, making it a whole lot more fun....I would highly reccomend getting this game even if you arent great at FPS because after a few days this game will seem much easier and more enjoyable

Well when I first played online it felt like that, but after a while it seems like the game has slowed down to your pace, making it a whole lot more fun....I would highly reccomend getting this game even if you arent great at FPS because after a few days this game will seem much easier and more enjoyable

only your team can hear you, unless someone on the other team has eavsdropping perk. but that rarely happens.

I'm probably gonna go out and get COD4 tmrw. It will be my first FPS since Halo1 so many years ago. I usually download and try demos like Turok and The Darkness but I could never really get into FPS's. Hopefully COD4 will do what halo did for me.

Anyone else have any input on how COD4 online might be like for a guy in my position?

i'm not great at fps myself and really struggled to maintain a 1:1 K/D ratio

I'm usually around 2:1 now but there are those occasional games where I'll just completely lost it and end up going 3:19

in my opinion CoD4 is more of a tactical game than a skill game like in counterstrike where pros get head shots with a pistol from half way across the map

some skill is need in cod4 but more strategy is needed in my opinion

The majority of the time, if you spend time aiming for a headshot your gonna wind up dead yourself.

Unless your hiding in cover of course.

Most of the headshots come from either players sitting in plain view (which makes them an easy target) or from just pure luck e.g. someone pumps a load of bullets into you and the final blow hit your in the face.

I wouldn't say COD4 is a headshot orgy. It can be pretty hard to get headshots. Personally about 10% of my kills are headshots. (6000 kills= 600 Headshots) Most of those are unintentional.

well my bro is head hunting for the gold skin for tha M4 carbine. his name is biggz124.

i though i had a low head shot ratio, but i have about 600 HS o 4000 kills, so that seems alright now. its not hard to get headshots, but its just not easy to think about it in the heat of battle, where hitting the chest is just easier.
