I think this year is shaping up good. Dead Space 2 and LBP 2 were great. Mortal Kombat, Dragon Age 2, Killzone 3, DiRT3, inFamous 2 are all great.
The second half of the year looks good 2 with Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Dark Souls, Catherine, COD: MW3, Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City.
While I disagree with you about Infamous 2 and LA Noire not being that great, I will say that many games that came out during the first half of 2011 were disappointing, like Killzone 3, Crysis 2, and Dragon Age 2(though they are still actually good games, they just didn't live up to expectations). But there are some games that you didn't mention that weren't disappointing at all. For example, Little Big Planet 2 and Portal 2. Also, this is the year that PS3 owners could finally try out Mass Effect 2, which is a big plus. However, the second half is shaping up to be much better. Just look - Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Twisted Metal, Battlefield 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Skyrim, RAGE, Modern Warfare 3, Arkham City, Dark Souls, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and more on the other systems. Then 2012 will start with a bang with Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock Infinite and will also see the release of The Last Guardian, Ninja Gaiden 3, and more.
I've bought LBP2, KZ3, Socom 4, LA Noire, Dead Space 2, DCUO and Crysis 2. LA Noire and KZ3 were decent, I love Socom 4 but the rest sucked, especially Crysis and Socom. I haven't got Portal 2 or MK yet but I agree this year has been crappy. In Q4 I want about 12 games though so that should make up for it.BigBoss255
lolwut? You love Socom 4 but it sucked?
Ive been generally disappointed since this gen started. It is all about the graphics with barely any gameplay, short games, and DLC milkage out the wazoo.
Lets not forget how everything coming out is either a sequel, shooter, ripoff, shooter, port, shooter, or a remake, or a shooter.
It seems like actual new stuff and innovative ideas are all with the indie devs with downloadable games on PSN, XBL, App Store, etc.
Granted there have been the occasional really fun game since 2005, but it i obvious the gaming industry is stagnating and completely run out of ideas for new games.
It's just you. It's true that some of the games that were released this year were lacking, but not all.
I've only played four new games this year so far (Portal 2, inFAMOUS 2,L.A. Noire, and Outland) but all four are amazing (least being L.A. Noire).
The Fall will bring a ton of other games I can't wait to play (No More Heroes HD, God of War Origins HD, Team Ico HD, Uncharted 3, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Assasin's Creed Revelations, Batman: Arkham City, etc.) so I think this year's only beginning (for me at least).
