as long as the box doesn't buckle up and fail under the ps3's weight, yeah, why not??? :)

probably not. If it has adequate breathing space above and around you should be fine.

nope, the cardboard box does not add more heat, as long as it is not so much fuzzy, that it blocks the vents, if it is smooth then it is perfectly ok... :)

I personally wouldn't on the off change that the box catches fire if the ps3's heat gets especially bad, but then again I am overly paranoid. If the box yields under the PS3's weight it would probably do so slowly, so the console isn't subjected to a high drop

If you're ok with a cardboard box you're obviously not into decore (my girlie would not allow that in the living room) - Use a milk crate instead. Strong support, and airflow underneath the unit where most of the heat syncs are located. You won't get very good air under the machine using a cardboard box, and that's key. I advocate using spacers (a game case on either side will do) to create at least a half-inch air gap under your machine. A milk crate will allow similar air access to the underside of the PS3. And, get it off the floor.

I don't recommend putting anything on a hollow cardboard box.

Bingo, m'friend. Bingo! I reccomend this for everyone. That's how I can leave my PS3 powered up and online all the time. I have had SO many people challenge me on my claim of leaving my console on 24/7 (and no one from these forums on my friends list ever backs my statement up by saying "Yeah, I notice he's always on" - I still love them anyway)... But it really works.

It should be noted that when I'm not gaming I don't leave a game running, as even an attraction animation screen can cause the disc to spin on occasion, so if I don't have to work that part of the system, I certainly don't. But yeah... You can do a lot when theirs enough air.

:D

I put my PS3 on top of it's box then a anti slip mat to prevent it from falling. And i keep it 6 inches away from walls and 12 in the back.

Are you a hobo? If you can afford a PS3, you can afford a cheap stand to put it on.
