If you're ok with a cardboard box you're obviously not into decore (my girlie would not allow that in the living room) - Use a milk crate instead. Strong support, and airflow underneath the unit where most of the heat syncs are located. You won't get very good air under the machine using a cardboard box, and that's key. I advocate using spacers (a game case on either side will do) to create at least a half-inch air gap under your machine. A milk crate will allow similar air access to the underside of the PS3. And, get it off the floor.
:)
will i use 4 Small Wooden cubes used for kids learning,i put one on each corner ,they lift the a good amount off the ground and in the same time they are super stable since they r cubed and holding the corners, now my ps3 is always super coolS1NG3D
Bingo, m'friend. Bingo! I reccomend this for everyone. That's how I can leave my PS3 powered up and online all the time. I have had SO many people challenge me on my claim of leaving my console on 24/7 (and no one from these forums on my friends list ever backs my statement up by saying "Yeah, I notice he's always on" - I still love them anyway)... But it really works.
It should be noted that when I'm not gaming I don't leave a game running, as even an attraction animation screen can cause the disc to spin on occasion, so if I don't have to work that part of the system, I certainly don't. But yeah... You can do a lot when theirs enough air.
:D
