Now I hopefully will get a PS3 (look in sig for a link to my master plan)

I will have better chances to get a 40GB one over the 80GB, but will I really be missing so much if I get the 40GB over the 80GB,

I do have arond 30-40 PS2 games, only 2 I will go back to (.hack vol 3 and Soul Calibur 3) and the whole no backwards capabilities (sp?) is a bit of a turn off for me, but not having to pay for the transfer accesories, and hearing that there is bluring with the PS2 games are some counter arguments against it

I have also heard that you can upgrade the hardrive on the PS3, is it true and would you need a external hard drive to do so?

(P.S. I have looked at the stickies many times over and I have not found the answers to my question and I am not asking if I should get a PS3 either)

Agreed... You'll never know if you may need those extra USB ports, or that one PS2 title that could have been played... :)

You do know also that the PS3 can upscale those PS2 games, so why not?

That is where my problem is...I have a tv that can only support two consoles, I have my Wii plugged in to one and my PS2 in the other, so if I was to ever want to play my PS2 games, I would have to unplug one, then plug it in...I had to do that when I was younger...very annoying...

Well, I just got mine for 40gb PS3, Spiderman Blu-ray movie, Virtua Fighter 5, and an extra controler for $369and can't be happier :). Just have to note that PS3 is my first console, so I don't have any games from previous ones.

40Gb is sufficent, go with it. You really wont need BC after u start playin PS3 games, I had around 120+ PS2 games, i do hav a ps2 to play them on, but i havent gone back cause games like Uncharted, Warhawk and Ut3 just have a different experience to last gen games.

Absolutely agreed. And if you do have around 30-40 games, you must have a PS2 as well. In my opinion, you should same those $100 for use towards games like Uncharted, COD 4, UT 3and Ratchet. I have a PS2 and when I have to play any old game I just go back, pop it in my PS2 and play it.

I would get the 80gig to be honest with you. Considering that you have a considerableamount of collection from your PS2, I would opt for the 80gig. Of course NOT all games will be backwards compatible with the 80gig but it's better than not being able to play any at all (40gig). I have plenty ofgames from PS1 all the way thru PS2 & even though I've said I won't play it again, I find myself sitting down and enjoying it all over again. Just get the 80gig so you won't regret it in the future. If you can find the 60gig, even better!

One of the reasons I got the ps3 was to play my old PS2 games, since I got a disc read error bug on my PS2 :D

It is wroth the extra hundred bucks...one way to look at it is that it's only an extra 40 bucks, cause motorstorm is 60 hehe..Also, you have no idea how fast the memory goes..I have the 60GB version and my memory went down veeery fast.

So yea, worth it

I would go with the 40 gb one cause bc isn't really needed after playing PS3 games :D and u said that u still have ur PS2 anyway. The only problem i see is that it only got 2 USB ports which could be annoying for games like Rock band.

I have also heard that you can upgrade the hardrive on the PS3, is it true and would you need a external hard drive to do so?

EpsilonZX

To answer this part: Yes you can upgrade your PS3 harddrive, I believe Sony actually meant for this to be a feature and therefore it doesn't void your warranty (people who actually own a PS3 may be able to verify this). No you don't need to get an external hard drive for this upgrade, but the size of the PS3 limits you to using Notebook-sized harddrives. Check out newegg.com, you can get a compatible 120GB harddrive for like $60.

In other words, backwards-compatibility should be your main deciding factor since harddrive space is cheap and upgradable.

wow, I leave for one night, and then 16 more posts appear in this topic,

Anyway, I'll try to push for the 80GB, even if I have to pay just $100, and yes I do go back to play old games, I love Soul Calibur and .hack, and since they get an extra graphical push, it'll make them look even better :D

Why not get a 60 gig? Unless you're using a store issued credit card, e.g., A Macy's Card, why not pick one up off an online auction site? The 60 gig is still the best deal out there.

60 is the way to go.

If space is a concern, grab a 60 gig, the best PS3 currently available, and just upgrade it.

Get one of those audio/video selector adapters. You plug the output of the adapter into the input of the tv, and plug in all of your systems into the selector. Then you'll be able to choose which system to play with the push of a button.

I got my 60 gig PS3 online for $380 (and no shipping charge), which is cheaper than the 40 gig, no backwards compatability model is going for in stores. Online is definitely the way to go.

The 80 GB model is truly the best value. However, if you don't play on doing much multimedia/PSP stuff or playing your old PS2 games, save yourself the cash.

I love my 80 GB.

Do not list the games in the price because they are FREE addons.
