Is MGS4 the best in the series?

Well i've only played MGS2 on the PC and that was also not paying much attention to the story. i recently got MGS4 and i'm having one of the best gaming experiences ever. Ive done my homework on the backstory so understanding the story is ok most of the time.

However, some quick searches to find out more about the game led me to more negative talk about MGS4. Some say its the worst game of the series even though its good. Is this real? i cant imagine it being the worst because its one of the best games i've ever played (still on act 4 though). any comments? keep it spoiler free please :)

No, I think many will say it's the best in the series (I certainly would), but everyone has their opinions. There may have been some backlash because of the hype and perfect 10 scores, but for the most part people love it. And then inevitably there are the people who hate it because everyone loves it so much.

I personally thought that it was the best in the series and did a good job of closing everything.

As far as gameplay goes I consider MGS4 the best but story-wise I liked MGS3 a little more. Favourite MGS? well that's still the original but with that being said I pretty much like all MGS games equally, they were all awesome in their own way.

I find the first MGS the best in the series. Mainly because Gray Fox is one of my all time favorite characters.

It all depends on personal preferences. While the story wasn't the best in the series, the gameplay, graphics and everything else is. I love the game, and it probably is the best in the series (an opinion.) I still think that MGS3 has the best story though. Anyways, don't believe all that talk saying that it's the worst. Some people just think it's cool to hate on popular games, whether they played them or not.

Depends on what you play MGS for, the story, the gameplay, the characters, the graphics? for the story probably because it ties up MOST of the loose ends gameplay depends on yuor taste because this one was not as focused on sneaking characters probably because this one explained alot of backstory for some mysterious characters and introduced some very interesting characters, graphics probably not any of them because they are older games.

I actually found MGS4 to be the weakest in the series storywise. I thought MGS3 and MGS2 were the best.

MGS2=MGS3>MGS1>MGS4

For me, the best in the series is still the original Metal Gear Solid. There's something timeless about that scene where you walk into this gory hall and there's decimated troopers laying in puddles of blood, and then you find out that this badass Cyborg Ninja was behind it all. From that moment on, I wanted to be the Cyborg Ninja, but sadly the only other person they let you play as in the Metal Gear series is that pansy Raiden. There's also the boss battles with Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis that are simply classic.

After the first, I'll admit, I lost pretty much all interest in the series. After the crap story in the second one, I just have no desire to sit through overly long codec messages and huge, badly acted cutscenes anymore. Maybe it's just a sign of me not having as much time to play games these days. Oh, the joys of getting older.

Snake Eater is best, in my opinion.

I can't say I haven't played them all.

Mgs4 is easily the best in the series not that the first 3 were bad.

2 and 3 were better imo, but all great nonetheless.

Snake Eater will always be the best MGS for me. The whole cold war era setting and James Bond-like storyline was just very compelling, and the characters were very unique and likeable. Not to mention the ending is one of the most emotional I've ever experienced in any video game.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is the Best IMO.

Every single installment of the Solid series is a Masterpiece.

damnn why does everybody think Snake Eater was so good? I thought it was horibble. Maybe cuz im used to all the radar and high tech shenanigans from the other games. But I think MGS4 is definitely one of the most hyped MGS titles ever. great graphics possible best currently (not until heavy rain comes out =D)

and interesting chains of events and fun little things that you do during the game aka the Metal gear Fight wit liquid.

MGS1=MGS4>MGS2>MGS3

All of them were were great imo

i thought the first metal gear on the nes was the best. followed by the first metalgear on the ps1. i personally thought mgs4 was just so/so(just my opinion).

heres my opinion on them all.

MGS1- amazing, good story, characters, and pretty revolutionary for its time with the cinematic feel.

MGS2- great, this one definately was one of the best games on the PS2 in my opinion.

MGS3- great again, this one was definately up there with the best on the PS2, but i favor MGS2 if i had to pick.

MGS4- in my opinion, best game on the PS3 and my all time favorite game, (metal gear online aside)

so, those are my opinions, if i absolutely HAD to choose a favorite it would be 4. with 2 at a close second. and a tie for 3rd place between 1 and 3 because i like them equally.

I'm playing throught he whole series right now because I've only played 4 and 2. 4 was really amazing.

Overall MGS4 was the best in the series. (Gameplay, controls,story,cut scenes).

MGS3 had some better story elements though. (and atmosphere)

I say the first one is still the best. But thats my opinion. But MGS4 is great and recommend it to everyone that loves a good story in video games.

I love the entire series, but what i consider best among them is either Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

They are all great games for there period of time. With that said MGS3 is my favorite of the series.

Gameplay wise, yes. No question.

But there are a few things I think Kojima just "threw together" and could've made better if they've given it a little thought. Sure, I was nuts for it and rightfully so because it was the last of Solid Snake's story. But thinking about it after a while, there were a few "blanket solutions" to critical parts of what makes up the Metal Gear story. Even with some characters.

Honestly, I would've made Vamp the successor to the Gray Fox/Null project.

Well it certainly is good,that's for sure.But MGS2 is also still a great game to play.

I feel asleep watching one of the cutscenes then starting playing Call Of Duty 4 again.. Thats my MGS4 experience rapped up in 7 seconds of your life.
