I was reading some post that people wrote, and what it said was "ohhh no online then im not buying it" i understand wanting replay value but dang, that takes a half of my libary that because i own..

Bioshock

Uncharted

Valkyria chronicles

Dead space

Rachet and clank

Ninja gaiden

Sonic ult genesis collection

So, what im asking is online really needed when you have an awesome single player?

We all know FPS campaigns suck 99% of the time.

ninja gaiden does have onlinie in the form of leaderboards. its just one of the many ways that this new fangled interwebz device can be used. i think that mostly any game can benefit from online play whether its competitive deathmatches, coop, leaderboards, downloadable skins, uploading levels, or user content. it really should be used in some form, but its not a must for me to buy it.

I dont care for online. If a game i am buying has online then its just a bonus. I hate developers who focus more on multiplayer ( Call of duty series for example 4 hour campaign is just no acceptable) Its even worse when developers forget splitscreen not everyone wants to play online. Now dont get me wrong i dont hate online but i prefer a solid long campaign (no thats what she said jokes please :P)

For me, the only games that must have online are Fighters (SFIV, BlazBlue) and FPS's. (aside from story driven ones like Bioshock and Half Life)

I rarely play online. I either do offline co-op with a friend or family memeber and I do single player. The only games I really do online with are Killzone 2, Resistance 2, and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. I usually never go online with them though, mainly because I hate hearing people talking on their microphones (it annoys the hell out of me).

Dead Space would be a fun game to incorporate online play into...

Im currently working on it right now it would be nice to have someone working besides you (as opposed to being alone) in this interactive space-horror environment.

I'm just the same! To me, single player campaigns feel like an add-on to online gaming. I'll never buy an offline only game at full price.

It does seem like games always look at multiplayer, and not having it lowers a game's replay value. Although multiplayer isn't always a must, I do think that some form of online reference IS needed for every game out now. It would be cool to see a friends ghost, or at least a leaderboard of some kind. Not having any online options really shoots down the replay value for games imo.

Oh the heck cares about online when you have trophies. And games with high replay value WITHOUT multi-player. Like Bioshock.

Perhaps ppl like the competitiveness. I don't mind playing with bots.

I'm with you. I heard that you should get xbox if you want online play, hence why I have a PS3. I'm sure there are some games where you would want co-op play, but since most of my friends of xbox lovers, there really isn't anyone I can team up with. Besides, I'm not as hard core as most gamers want, so I would probably be shunned for not having amazing skills.

No. And i'm sickened by the effect the big boom in online has had on this gen. like grid. back in the good old days it was a standard for racing games to have split screen. I think it's great that it's out there and gamer's enjoy it, more power to them, but personally i'm upset by the fact that lot's of games (call of duty for refference) have robust online but short campaigns, heck my cousin's have leveled up max numerous times on WaW and 4 and haven't finished either's story! No reason for games like killzone 2 and grid to forget gathering 'round the tv.

I feel somewhat the same. Although I like playing online with others I don't care much to voice chat or actually see who i'm playing with. I like to just focus on the gameplay itself. But most games are becoming so side-tracked with all these online community features that single player gameplay and story is being affected.

No, not a must. Games like Uncharted and Bioshock proved that as far as I'm concerned. I would have bought both sequels and probably loved them without multiplayer.

I only see online modes as a complimentary feature. Single-player is all important, in my opinion.

No it's a bonus. I'll always play the campaign before I play the multiplayer. Unless its a series I know really well like the COD series. I'll buy games without online.

online multiplayer is a bonus for me.. but it never is the selling point.. however online cooperative is a selling point for me.. games like rb6v2, ao2, re5 ect.. i would have never have played if i couldn't play online with a friend, which i enjoyed those games because i played with a friend..

I always beat the campaign before i take the game online.. but only if i enjoyed the campaign (unless cooperative).

if any of that makes sense lol..

No. It won't work for every single game. Some people just like the online to interact with others, but there is nothing wrong with single player only games.

I prefer single player games, so a lack of multi-player doesn't mean much to me.

If a game has a good story and cool unlockables I could easily rank up more hours than people playing COD. I think most people just want a challenge when they get good at the game. Kinda like the Hunter syndrome, Hunter that kills animals may get tired of it and want to takedown the toughest animal, humans perhaps.

So for me single-player is what I prefer but if the game gets to easy I'll move to the online portion. With Blazblue I don't go online anymore cause the standard game is about as tough as I want it to be.

I think everyone is putting multiplayer with online. There are a lot of games that have some type of online, like devil may cry 4, that don't have a multiplayer game. There are leaderboards, time trials, etc that still have an online element. MGS4 (not mgo) has online that lets you go and download some camo's, ipods and you still get the same single player experience. With that in mind, I would say that online is a must for every game now, and I personally expect it. When its done right, it can make a good game great. If its done wrong, well then you still have the original experience.

Online is cool in short bursts. I like singleplayer more though. I can see why people would want online. Why have online and not take advantage of it? I just don't like it when games either focus on singleplayer so much and just add a crappy online section just to get people to buy it or have a singleplayer section but waste most resources on the online. I am not saying you can't do both successfully but if one is going to outweigh the other I would rather have a game that focused soley on one thing than have multiple things but each one of them is just ok.

I agree with the Dylan Jobe the creator of Warhawk. He scratched the singleplayer in favor of a better multiplayer and that's cool. I think it's cool that Ratchet went back to it's roots and went for a more story/singleplayer experience and ditched the multiplayer aspect. I know that a lot of people want ratchet to have multiplayer again but I am hoping the new one also only is singleplayer. There is plenty of games out there with good multiplayer and singleplayer is dying quite a bit. RPG's are the last haven for SP and even they are getting online now with games like White Knight Chronicles and Demon Souls.

There are some genre's that probably are a must online such as shooting games or racing games at this point. They are easy to do and make sense to go online, but story driven games like Prince of Persia or Final Fantasy should not be online. Fighting games definitely should always be online at this point, vs is the key point to a fighting game.

It depends on the game but I don't think online is a must for every game. I don't like the ideaof "it must have online or I am not buying it." or the game must 40 hours long or I am not buying it. I understand people want their money's worth but just because a game is longer doesn't mean it's more fun or has more value. Making a game too long can screw up the pacing of the story or have things drag out longer than they need to.

A good example of a game that is perfectis Uncharted. Truethere was too much shooting and you didn'tdo much else but the story and pacing were right on, If the game were 20 hours then that would have screwed things up. I think people need to learn how to play games again or harder difficulties or sttartrenting a lot more because your aren't going to get 50 hours on every game and your not going to get Co-op in everything either.

I have started renting more myself, especially with the Wii.

Buy what you knowyou are going to keep around and rentwhat your iffy about.

Single player or splitscreen/2+ controllers all the way. I prefer it to online multiplayer...but that doesn't mean I mind online gaming if its done well.

Either it has online compatible game play or it needs to be a huge game like fallout 3 or oblivion-anything shorter than that is not worth buying. That is when you rent, or gamefly.

Definitely not a must. But a good plus to the game. If a game relies on story development and single player campaign and owns with it, fair enough. I've never felt the need of an online mode on games like bioshock or assassin's creed while I think Little Big Planet's online is pure gold....to each their own.

No, but online is a blast if you're with the right people. Without online its just a game without the whole community behind it.

It depends on the game. I really don't think Bioshock 2 should have multiplayer but a game like Call of Duty needs online.

For me, online play in the form of deathmatch, capture the flag, etc., is 0% important to a game. Online co-op, such as having the campaign playable online with a friend, can be fun, but is not a requirement for me.

Single player is really all that matters to me.

No it isn't half the games today have tacked on multiplayer that no one cares for. Unless you are going to dedicate 1/2 your team to do multiplayer and go all out for it then don't bother. I prefer single player online but when i find a good mp game I stick with it and ignore multiplayer in other games. So basically unless you are one of the big boys that i will sink into for a long time, online is unnecessary.

i think not every game needs its. look at the first uncharted, bioshock infamous dead space and many others. i think wat makes a GAME so unique or great is the single player/story mode of the game. thats wat sells me to the game wat drags me to it. yes i love online too such killzone or warhawk , socom and so on. but i love single player/story mode in a game alot more. wat they doin with bioshock 2 and uncharted 2 i think its kinda of a mistake. those games are known and best played if it was just single player without worryin or adding online to it. now in uncharted the co-op is fun i played the beta so that ill let it slide. but online like death match and retrieve the propaganda and what not well to be honest it turned me off abit didnt like it one but. but i know ill love the single player

Not at all, and I hope it never is.

Online certainly has its place in gaming, but becoming a necessity would cause a severe drop inthe amount of quality single player games that are made, and single player campaigns are still the most important and enjoyable part of gaming in my opinion.
