damn ! :(....

the thing is that i REALLY want a PS3 right now... but if i get the 80Gig its gonna be 540 with taxes....and i can get the 40Gig for 350.... and since i have to pay like 150-180 bucks for 2 school summer subjects.... im gonna have a empty wallet... :(

Its not 540 with taxes, its $499 with takes (about $540), its just that Gamestop online thing with the extra headset that makes it cost taht much.

No the PS3 40 GB is not a rip off. Ex. I have no PS2 games, and purchased the PS3 to play Blu-Ray and next gen game. The extra 40GB you get with the 80GB version also has not been used in my case. I have 30-35GB of free space. My MP3, Videos, pics, etc are on my pc which the PS3 can talk to, so do not have to store on the PS3. I never download games because I get no discount over getting the full game at the store. And if you do run out of space you can get a bigger hard drive.

If you do not need backward compatability and the extra flash memory and usb slots then the 40GB version is the better deal. Why spend and extra $100 for somthing you won't use. I can get 2+ games with the savings.

Money well spent if you are into older games. Keep in mind the 80GB is not 100% backward compat.

Eithere way you will be happy.

[QUOTE="hillelslovak"]Compared to the 80 gb, its far inferior. But if you dont care all that much about backwards compatibility, then its great. And there's that rumor that the 40 gb will have limited b/c in october anyway. And the 360 premium costs way more when you figure in the 50 dollars a month for xbl, the 100 dollar wifi connector, and all the other crazy things, all for an inferior system.TrueProphecy22

Dude, it's 50$ a YEAR, not a month. That's less than 5$ a month.

But it doesnt sound as bad if he says less than $5 a month. I have all 3 systems, so have not bias toward any one system. I love them all. Yes the Xbox 360 has a pay for online, and I know it is hard to hear, but it is the best out there. The PS3 is good though (especially for free). The Wii.....ONline flat stinks. Nintendo should pay me to play on line.

As for me the the answer is easy if you have PS2 games and need backward compat then the 80GB version is what you want. If you dont need it then the 40GB is a bargain. I don't regret getting the 40GB over the 80 because when I buy a new system I am looking to play next gen games. Good luck on your search.

[QUOTE="zatoninja"]Yes, compared to the 80gb. The 80gb can play PS2 games, the 40gb cannot. Having double the GB with the 80gb one is also a major plus, since a lot of games have to be installed into the PS3. I have a 60gb, and I have to delete stuff when I want to put new things on it because I have so muany things installed in it.Chaos_Eagle

Does that really matter? Please highlight the point of buying a PS3 to play PS2 games on it. If you have an energy guzzling giant like the PS3, then why not use all of it's next-gen power?

Because graphics aren't everything. You can have a graphically awesome game, but it could still have a cr@qqy Storyline and Gameplay. Some of my favorite games are on the PS2 and PS1, and since those games are selling between $5-$20, and there are a quadrillion titles, being able to play PS2 and PS1 games is a must.

PS2 games worth buying: Zone of the Enders 2, Guilty Gear X2, BLACK, God of War 1&2, Indigo Prophecy, Silent Hill 2, Onimusha 1,2&3, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Metal Gear Solid 2&3, Devil May Cry 1&3, StarWars BattleFront 2, the Legacy of Kain Series, and many, many others...

I hope this answers your question Chaos_Eagle!!!;)
