We should also say that unlike the 360s, you can use any 2.5'' SATA hard drive so you are not limited by brand or size and can find them very cheap.

1) Yes, but the hard drive is screwed in. You'll need a tool kit and a mini-phillips screwdriver to open that baby up. A word of caution, those screws are machine tightened! They strip like they're made of plastic; so be VERY careful when you try to open it up. If you end up stripping the screws, try using needle-nosed pliers. Preferably the locking needle-nosed pliers, which have more power than just your finger strength.

2) See above poster. Most formats should work, though.

3) Nope. See, Blu-Ray is write-protected, so if you tried, the data would be corrupted anyway, not to mention you'd go to jail if you somehow succeeded.

GeneralX84

to elaborate

1. yes- it is a laptop SerialATA hard drive, it is located on the side of the ps3, there are manuals out there and its easy

2. yes you can copy stuffs....hahah

3. no?? what does "illigal" mean?? anway, its ambiguous not illigal, if you SELL the storage drive THAT is illigal, but making a copy for yourself (or a rip, and NOT sharing it) shouldnt be illigal, that rule goes with emulators too, if you own the original emulator game on its original formatt, you can store a digital verion, the emulator...so yes, but you will probably have to mod the ps3, and its NOT illigal as long as you dont make a profit

1. Yes, in fact you can buy a standard 2.5" HDD and replace it with that instead of buying official HDD.
2. Yes. You can also copy game saves.
3. You can under Linux, but I don't think we can talk about this here.
4. MP4, MPG, and some other ones. You can stream any format to your PS3 though with Nero.

Not sure on the illegality of ripping your own blu-ray disks, because I don't follow it, but you can do it and it's not corrupted. I doubt someone would go to jail if they are backing up their own disks, it might not be legal, but it definitely ain't going to land you in jail. Anything else I will not comment on.

If Blu Ray movies have the same restrictions as DVD's, users are permited a single copy as a personal back up under the law. Attempting to sell the film or show it publicly without the consent of the copyright hodler is a violation of the law and punishable by jail time AND a $500,000USD fine. At least in the US.

Hmmmmm... I can remember the OG Xbox having drive problems at leastas much as the PS2, but probably more, which is why they went through 2 different drive manufacturers before putting out consoles with drives that wouldn't develop issues. As for your rant against PS1, you clearly never owned one, I have yet to have a problem with any playstation console, nor has anyone else I've known. Everyone I know who has a 360 has had to send it in, and I've had 2 OG Xbox dvddrives die on me, so how about you take your own medicine about being cocky. Microsoft can barely make working software, why they thought they could make working hardware is beyond me.

http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=362&p_sid=Kt_CyrDj

It's very simple. Yes, the screws strip easily if you don't use a screwdriver which fits properly. I would not recommend using plyers as mentioned earlier. The screws are not overly tight just make sure the screwdriver fits properly.

Any of these will work.

You can get a 1 terabyte drive for $100 , a 500gb drive for $70 , or a 320gb for $55 .... compare those prices to the $100- 120gb only option on 360... and you can use any speed or brand 2.5 sata drive you want. Want faster speed get a 10,000rpm drive.

- for the X360 you can only get a Microsoft HDD that is the same size as the one you got in the console, and it is ridiculously expensive (20Gb = 50$)

- for the PS3, it's the HDD you use on portable PC, choose a 5400 rpm, as it heats less, got a 160 Gb for 35 Euros

Actually.....EVERYone I know who played DVDs on their PS2 have had the lens burn out. If you wanna talk cream of the crop and their actual Reliability its always been nintendo. My PS1 however is still good. Ive been through 2 PS2s and 2 360s(Red Ring of Death) and 2 PS3s(Orange Light of Death, so I upgraded to the slim) all my nintendos have never broken down, and I'll give the 360 slim some time before i upgrade to that. But really in all truth its all about wear n tear. Thats why I dont play DVDs on my consoles anymore-better to play DVDs on a DVD player. EXCEPT for PS3, the Blu-Ray players on the console are wayy better and buffer smoother than a normal Blu-ray player. Oh and FYI you can hook up external HDs to the 360 as long as its a FAT-32-last gen HDs ANYWAYSSSSS, Yeah the HD is removable with some effort BUT remember that if your upgrading HDs make sure to back up your data, since it is encrypted to the console and slapping in a new HD will re-format the new one. Then transfer it back over.

Yes You can, a simple google will reveal the formats. Only music cd's can be copied to your HDD.
