Yep, everything you heard is true. Did you know that the slim only plays NES games?

this question is easy, if price isn't relevant, the fatty is the superior of the 2, absolutely.

Ya my buddy just got a slim yesterday. They're not as nice. Nice HDD capacity but other than that they're not worth it. The AC power cord is thinner but the system is lower voltage and is always on stand by when plugged in; No main power switch. Saves on electricity so probably less likely to have a surge but it gets hot. I'm not sure if they make cooling unit or not.

It depends... it may be good for some, but others may prefer the original.

Well, the speed part of that is false. They both have a terribly slow 2x blu-ray drive. Quality wise, I have no idea. I haven't had the opportunity to dig into either of them yet. I'm inclined to believe though that the slim is of at least decent quality. And having more efficient power usage and stuff is an obvious plus. I would go for the slim, and get an extended warranty if your worried about it.

I have a Slim that I upgraded from a newer 80GB model. The Blu-Ray drive actually runs about a half a second faster as per the processor. The lack of a main power switch I could care less about. Compared to the older models the power/eject buttons are actual buttons now instead of the little touch sensors. You will notice that they do get pretty warm, but in my experience my 80GB ran hotter. I like the asthetics with the flat black finish instead of that super glossy fingerprint/dust/scratch magnet finish on the older models. It sucks half the juice as my old one, and runs way quieter when playing games. If you do get a Slim, the crackling noises you hear upon start up and shutdown are completely normal. Its from the expansion and contraction from the heat in the system. Older models get that too but not as prevelant. Another thing is that when you put in a DVD movie the fan will kick up for about 30 seconds and then die down to nothing again so its all completely normal. Go ahead buy a Slim, this isn't the Xbox where you have to worry about your system dying within 2 weeks of purchasing it. I'm extremely happy with mine and I have encountered no problems in the time i have owned it since its launch.

k i think ill go with the slim then. i dont give a crap about power switch. i can just unplug it...

quieter, less scratches and smudges, and smaller sounds good. the touch sensitive buttons are cool but thats the only upside to the fatty.

One other thing missing from the slim though that i notice no one has mentioned?-You can't install Linux on it like you could with the Phat PS3.

I've had the 80GB fat for about 6 months. Just got the Slim a week ago. I cannot tell of any difference in performance between the two, and I do think the Slim looks and fits better than the fat.

The Blu-ray drive is better in the Slim if anything... There's a video somewhere which shows that the Slim Blu-ray drive is slightly faster than the fatty. I got a Slim on release and haven't had a single problem (touching wood atm)... so go Slim!
