Someone told me there's a firmware update coming to address this issue. I'm not sure if the source is credible, but it's a nice thought if for nothing more.
i wona play some PS2 games on my 40gig :(, but i doubt this Firmware thing will ever happen >:(. Only the 60gigs have this special gift for playing PS2 games......maybe thats why the PS3 60gigs keep dying lol

I hope so, but better yet ... just put the games on PSN. I'm sure $20 is 20 whether I buy it from walmart or PSN I hope. I REALLY WANT TO PLAY GOD OF WAR 1 & 2 ... but I dont want to get a PS2. lol
The first 80 gig PS3's in the NTSC region had PS2 support. As for a software emulator I really don't think it's going to happen. If anyone wants to play the classic PS2 games on a PS3 then they need to look for a 20, 60, or early 80 gig PS3. One way of seeing if the 80 gig a person owns is see how many USB ports are on it, the ones that had PS2 support had four USB ports and the ones that don't have two USB ports. All PS3's support PS1 games.
