I'm not too sure if i should send my console to Sony, here is my problem: I'm not sure if my disc drive is working right, i can insert games and movies into it and they work just fine but i'd notice that i need to insert the games and movies in certain position, to be clear if i insert a disc too close to the left side it won't enter into the console but if i insert them from the center more to the right side the drive grabs the disc and it enters into it.

One time when i was gonna play certain game when i was inserting the disc the drive grabbed it and it began to enter into the console slower than usual. I wouldn't like to send it to Sony because they can end sending me another system and i will lost many copy protected save files and if this happens i won't play those games anymore.

Is this normal as long as i can insert and play games? My PS3 is one of the first 80gb models without BC.

It seems like one of the small spring loaded sensors inside the BD has come off or gotten stuck, if its under warranty send it into sony, its an easy fix so i don't think they'd send you a refurbed ps3. If not under warranty fix it youself or deal with it, not worth $150 to get fixed.

When you stick it in sideways and it doesn't take it right away, does it eventually take it if you push the disc harder in?

Well i can't find a vid right now but heres one on how to clean your laser, just follow it to take apart the BD.

Heres what i think it is:

BTW - i swaped my laser and in doing so accidentally knocked both of those off, afterward my ps3 did the same thing as yours so thats why i think this is the problem

Do you think if i continue to use it my games can get damage or scratch?

I think i should give it a try but i'm not too sure because i will lose the warranty. Ah what a problem.
