why do people buy games just for the online? online is a nice extra...but the game is nothing without the SP! my cousins buy games only for the online! they got MW2 and I told them "you guys liked the campaign?" and they reply "we dont play SP..we just play online!" I was like wth! you gotta play SP! (also they wont help me with spec ops...I invite them to join me at spec ops and they just invite me to their online team deathmatch I get like ¬¬

they also bought uncharted 2 only for the online...yeah like I said its surely a nice extra...but the SP in uncharted 2 is way better! and the MP is more enjoyable when you finish sp!

As long as they feel like they get their money's worth, who cares if they rob themselves of the singleplayer experience.

Buying a game for its online is totally understanding, most games now days revolve around the multiplayer experience and thats most often where the developers pride themselves, take for instance Socom Confrontaiton, soley a multiplayer game, even Warhawk. And then theres games like Call of duty, where in the developers mind the Singleplayer is just a nice extra. They truely devote most of their work to the multiplayer becuase that is where the market is at right now. Most short singleplayer games are just rented or borrowed for the experience, while if they offer multiplay. Players are more inclinded to purchase the game becuase they see themselves using that feature more often then the singleplayer experience, while fun, most peopleonly replay through the story on games more then once or twice. So the multiplayer is giving them a reason to play the game more then once so it doesn't just collect dust.

I never buy games for the online multiplayer only. The single player part of it definitely comes first for me because years down the road, if I wanna pop it in to have some fun again, I can do that. With online focused games, you won't really be able to or at least not as viable because far less people will be playing. Offline multiplayer is a different story though. ;)

Certain types of games I'll buy for online (KZ2, MW2), but for the most part SP always comes first.

the only thing I dont like about UC2 multiplayer is that it takes around 1:30 minutes to access only the MP lobby. and it takes around 3 more minutes to find a game. and when the game finishes, the group of that games disolves and everyone has to search for another game...

If I'm not mistaken with the newest patch they fixed it so that loading was quicker and after the match ends you stay with the same people. I haven't played in a few weeks so I can't confirm but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

well I can confirm it...I played yesterday...loading was still the same and the groups still disolved. the only thing that I notice to be faster than the BETA is the fact that when your group dissolves you find a new one in around 15 seconds...but thats about it

Ok can the TC pleace explain how he validates spending 60$ on a 4-7H SP campaign? I'm over 50 hours in MW2 Online THAT makes it worth the purchase, i'd never pay anywhere near this amount for a a game thats not even over in 10 hours. What the TC forgets is that SP games have a story to wade through and thats that, most people can not be bothered replaying it. online on the other hand gives virtually endless replayability

Some people are multiplayer fanatics. I used to play nothing but MP for a while and used to rule, but I don't have the patience and the nerve for MP anymore. Stress factor and adrenaline rush involved in multiplayer gaming are too much for me nowadays. God, I feel like an old man...

You know there is a mute option?

They are like roaches, mute one, and a hundred more come screaming in to the game. Besides, even if you can't hear people, they can still ruin the game for you in many different ways. Playing online is a pain, every single time I bother doing it. It's Gabe's theory on internet anonymity in action.

in case of MW2...you are paying 60 bucks...and you get 3 modes (spec ops, SP campaign and MP) yet you only use one of them? how is that not throwing your money to the garbage! if the game only has a 3 hours long campaign and no MP or replay value...then its a scam! but if it has both...why not to play both?

No, you have the oppurtunity to spend a ton more time playing most games multiplayer then you do its single player.

I've been playing UC2 online a lot recently, and it seems random when it keeps the group and continues onto another match and when it dumps everyone and finds another group. Yesterday, everytime a match was over, it'd pretty much immediately go into another voting (for which map to play on) with the exact same group. But then other times, it'll dump them to find a new group. I'm thinking maybe if more than like 3 people quit the group (turn off multiplayer), it will just find a new group entirely than try to fill those 3 spots. But again, I'm not sure.

but if you have the SP there, in front of you, an enjoyable experience, which eventually comes to an end...then why not to play it? why to leave it there alone as if you would get extra charged for playing SP?

not really, I would pay 60 bucks just for Speacial Ops and multiplayer of MW2, because I know I would play that both modes a lot more then I would play a 5-8 hour campaign.

Multiplayer is generally more fun and engaging than singleplayer. But then again, multiplayer in most PS3 games seems more of an afterthought these days.

[QUOTE="jpridgen0"][QUOTE="lightleggy"] because your answer is invalid...you are saying that SP is just about doing stuff against AI...oh i was not aware that those cliffs and platforming elements from many SP games had artificial intelligence. sure the AI from the puzzles in portal sucks...it would be better to play against real people in portal!lightleggy
/facepalm where in any of my post did i say that "SP is only about doing stuff against AI"? your putting words in my mouth (in my post rather). im not saying cliffs and platforms have AI. all im saying is some people enjoy mp more than sp. what is so hard to understand about that? am i typing in a different language? are you slow? would you like me to edit my post so it says "singleplayer games are only about doing stuff against AI and cliffs and platforms have AI". would that make you feel better? dude just drop it. . .

you said that people find it more interesting to play against real people rather than AI Indirectly calling SP "AI only"

Indirectly calling SP "AI only"? Thats exactly what i said. YOU WIN!

No it isn't. Playing against real players it much more interesting than playing against AI. This is especially true for Fighting Games :P

I prefer multiplayer team cooperation games over anything else. I love single player games second and then multiplayer matches are next.

But I do see what you are saying TC. I always wondered how some people skip over single player gameplay too. Especially, great ones like uncharted and Metal Gear Solid.

But then again I consider myself a throwback gamer, because I do not care about online stats, competition, trophies, etc. I miss the old school beat em ups and coop gameplay that was the focus on games like snes and sega. I am not so much into this competitive nature that Games are leaning toward today.

However, I do enjoy Call of duty and Killzone if I am playing with some good friends.
