I would never buy a game just for online play, as a matter of fact, online play is rarely even part of the decision process. But these days its not so hard to understand why people would do that with the focus of games shifting in the direction of multiplayer, With the popularity of MMO's, every game having to have online play or it is considered incomplete and games like MAG and CoD which is basically all about the MP, I can see why people would make it the focus of thier purchases.

Well with games like Warhawk which have no single player campaign, buying the game for the online gameplay is sort of a default.

[QUOTE="lightleggy"][QUOTE="hot114"]Ok can the TC pleace explain how he validates spending 60$ on a 4-7H SP campaign? I'm over 50 hours in MW2 Online THAT makes it worth the purchase, i'd never pay anywhere near this amount for a a game thats not even over in 10 hours. What the TC forgets is that SP games have a story to wade through and thats that, most people can not be bothered replaying it. online on the other hand gives virtually endless replayability

in case of MW2...you are paying 60 bucks...and you get 3 modes (spec ops, SP campaign and MP) yet you only use one of them? how is that not throwing your money to the garbage! if the game only has a 3 hours long campaign and no MP or replay value...then its a scam! but if it has both...why not to play both?

Spec-ops IS online :P I purchase based on a number of qualifications, quality, originality and length. I would NEVER buy a shooter for its campaign - simply because it contains zero replay value for me and 5 hours of mediocre action is not worth 60$ When deciding my purchase of a shooter i usually judge on its multiplayer alone because thats what has to validate the expense. - The campaign and spec-ops are way low on my priority list and are considered nothing more than extras because it does not interest me for a multitude of reasons. (predictable, infinite health, dumb, inconsistent accuracy) the game has some cool hollywood moments but they remain the gimmicks in a ocean of challenging shootouts. - If i ever get tired of online play i'l likely wont purchase shooters period.

I never buy games for the online multiplayer only. The single player part of it definitely comes first for me because years down the road, if I wanna pop it in to have some fun again, I can do that. With online focused games, you won't really be able to or at least not as viable because far less people will be playing. Offline multiplayer is a different story though. ;)naaros
I agree... me too... but some games like cod:waw s**ks in SP but MP is great...

It depends on the game, really. Most people bought MW2 for the online, I know I did. But Uncharted 2 has sick single player, but the online is meh; buying that for the online is stupid.jakecufc8888
Yeah i know. Uncharted 2 doesnt even need a multiplayer to be a great game, it just needs sp but games like mw2 which dont have good sp need multiplayer to get a good rating.

MW2 has a great SP/MP/CO-OP...all great CoD:WaW has a terrible SP, except the last mission Games like MGS4, Uncharted, InFamous, God of war... DON'T need MP

And everything you said about mp could as easily be said about sp. And quite frankly sometimes the mp is better than sp anyways. I enjoyed the mp of Killzone 2 far more than the sp.

I buy a game for the multiplayer, the SP is a bonus to me. I'll only buy a single player only game if I think I will enjoy it. I bought UC2 for the multiplayer, I didn't touch the singleplayer at all for the first 3 days

Just give them time, one day they'll be tired of the online playing, it could take a long time could take years.... I used to be that way too.

It's the other way around for me. I stay away from games that focus heavily on multiplayer and if they have a great single player mode (Uncharted 2, Batman: AA) I sell them immediately after I beat them. I'll probably be the only gamer who'll rejoice if multiplayer goes extinct all of a sudden.

Everyone thinks different but personally I buy a game for the single player I just see the online as a extra bonus as long as the game has a mute button for people who swear and scream all the time I'm happy as I hate listening to people who act like a baby. But if a game has CO-OP like Uncharted 2 has I'll play it.

It isn't stupid if that is what you're looking forward to the most. It's only stupid to by a game that is primarily online MP for the SP campaign, or the reverse.

Uncharted I agree is kinda dumb just for online but its their money and game they can choose to play it any way they see fitting. If they want to play online who are we to say its dumb if they are enjoying themselves. I am the only one on my friends list that has actually finished Modern Warfare 2 campaign

As long as they feel like they get their money's worth, who cares if they rob themselves of the singleplayer experience.BenderUnit22

this is how I think.

I do require a SP, but I don't feel I have my money's worth unless there is some guaranteed replayability through online.

If the only interesting thing about the game is the online part, then no.
