trophies are a good reason to continue playing a game that has been beaten. It adds actual, tangible objectives and goals, which equals replay value. More bang for your buck.
The only time I care about someone else's trophies are when they are my real life friends. Its fun to smack talk to them IN PERSON and whatnot, but again it is ALL IN FUN. It is just friendly competition...but it gets out of control when people do judge one by their trophies...how ridiculous. WHO CARESSSSS...
You seem to counter yourself here. One you said a lot of trophies = dedication to gaming; but on the other hand you say a lot of trophies on 'cheap Disney games' = cheating the system. I'd dare to say that no matter what games you get lots of trophies on, you're still dedicated to gaming. Who are you to say that certain games have trophies that are worth more than others? I personally don't judge people by trophies, but it does drive me crazy when people just goes through games and gets the easiest trophies just to have them (i.e. Remix a mod, kart, and track - just changing the color of 1 item on each and re-publishing them online) rather than actually getting the trophy as parting of your gaming experience. I feel there is a difference between "trophy hunting" and "earning trophies", but thats just me.tonyf55
I also hate it when people just play a game to get the easy trophies. Pretty pointless if you buy a game just to get the trophies, thats why i hate people who play easy games to platinum just to boost thier score. if i see a person with tons of games (that are really easy to get trophies for, like movie tie-in games) i tend to dislike it b/c it seems to me they are just doing it to boost their score
And i would dare say that a Platinum on a game like Uncharted 2/Killzone 2 is "Worth" more than a Platinum on a game like Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
Achievements >>> Trophies.
I hate how you can have 50% on a certain game on PS3, but people still look at it as if you're only half way done even though you've beat it 3 times...played it alot etc..
Never liked the percentage setup.
I don't care about trophies. I think that has a lot to do with how long I've been gaming. Trophies are still relatively new, and don't really prove anything to me since not every game supports it.
Someone on my friend's list called me out and called me a noob since I had no platinum trophies. I was playing Bad Company 2 at the time, so I wasn't about to argue with him, but I just thought "A noob, really?". MGS4, Heavenly Sword, CoD4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and tons more don't have trophy support, so they should just be ignored, right? I suppose if I really wanted to I could platinum Dead Space, God of War 3, ACII, and Infamous, but I'd rather catch up on the PS3 games I missed.
Although when I see someone with a high trophy count, I don't sneer and say "he/she has no life", but instead kudos to them. They clearly spent time with it and accomplished their goal. Well done.
I never judge by trophy level. I have a low amount of trophies, but even when I get a few more hundred, I still won't have a plat because I never try for it. A person isn't a "noob" if they have a few hundred trophies and no plats. It just means that they play the campaign, play some multiplayer, and move on.
A lack of "platinum" trophies doesn't determine if someones a noob gamer. 100% of the time, I play just for fun and to complete the story, not necessarily to earn every single achievement/trophy. Last time I checked, achievements/trophies does not have any monetary value... I could care less about 100% completion.
I couldn't care less about my own trophy or achievement level and I never even thought to check my friends' levels. sieg6529agreed & ditto
I think it's stupid when others judge someone on a trophy level the reason I have no platinum trophies is down to moving onto to different games all the time I don't just stick with one game. I do check people's trophies to see what games people have though.
*looks at trophy level and platinum count*I pay attention to what people play instead of just level.

Uncharted 2 is one of the easier platinums available, easily achievable in a one week rental if you desired.
I personally don't see any reason to make fun or be mean to others. It just shows immaturity. Blowing out the flame of somebody else's candle doesn't make yours any brighter.
I'm a terrible person because I get a little smug feeling of satisfaction when I notice my friends have a lower level than me, but if they have more than me I tell myself that trophies don't matter anyway. yellerbellyi do the samething
the only platinum i would actually be willing to work for if i had the time is DS. that would be the best achievement of my gaming life. all the others are just giving trophies away like candy.
When someone adds me or I "meet" someone I want to add I always check out their trophy levels. However this is only because I am incurably nosey and does NOT lead me to form any opinions about them!

Demon's Souls honestly isn't that hard of a platinum (I haven't gotten it yet, though, I'll get around to it), after beating the game, you've done the hardest part, all you have to is grind for the rest of the trophies. Killzone 2, Socom, Wipeout HD, CoDC, Mirror's Edge, etc. are all much harder.
I have about 650 trophies and 3 plats and the highest TL on my friends list, and have, from time to time, been known to print off trophy lists and check them off.
But I usually don't judge people by their own trophy level. I only think "Hmm, they must have gotten a PS3 recently" if their Trophy level is low, or "Hmm, that guy has a lot of free time" if he has double-digit platinums.
Hakoom, on the other hand..
I have this same problem right now. I used to have fun getting trophies but now I have a friend (real life) who will buy a game just because I have it, because he doesn't want me to have trophies he doesn't. He even bought PS+ because I did. :?I do admit, i used to care about my trophies.
What actually put me off was a (real - life) friend of mine that bought several games that i did just because he didn't want me to have trophies he didn't have! That was actually the reason for me renting, and plat'ing Leg-ends of wrestlemania, just to see if he would do it!
Outside of that, the god of war games kinda put me off trophies too, they just threw them at you. it didn't feel like a challenge to be honest.
the only time i care about trophies is when it's a game i absolutely LOVE!
ACII was just begging me to play through it for the plat, as was infamous and bad company 2.
I know they are easy plats for the most part, but it was the satisfaction of getting the plat on a real favourite that made it worth it.
As for other people, what do i care what trophies they have?
what do i care that they platinumedhannah montana and fallout 3 in the same day.
It's a trophy! not a guide to someone's life.

The only I judge is whether or not someone ONLY plays MW2.
I would hate for people to think that I'm a newb because I don't have any platinums... I have 762 trophies.
i know someone who plays games for ps3 trophies only. when he asked about final fantasy xiii and borderlands he said "are the trophies for the games easy to get or not??"
that was weird and it gave me a big impression that he's not really a real gamer. he just plays for the trophies and not just to have fun with a good quality game.
Really this is what i think for the people that have a lot of trophys and got plantuim they liked that game a lot and kept playing it. If they dont have a lot of plantuim or even none that means they didnt like the games all that much to play it all they way through. And the PS3 has been out for lets see 4 years now so it would be normal for someone to have around 15 plantuim. Also just because they have 15 plantuims doesnt mean they play games all the time. It could just mean they only had 15 games and they got there moneys worth out of it.
Well PS3 may have been out for nearly 4 years, but trophies haven't been around for even 2 full years yet. And they've been around even less time, since it wasn't made mandatory until 2009 that every game has trophy support.Really this is what i think for the people that have a lot of trophys and got plantuim they liked that game a lot and kept playing it. Well, I bought my PS3 a month ago so... I'm one trophy away from my first platinum, but really, I just do it for the sake of playing a game to its fullest. I also play MGS4 a lot but hey, it doesn't have trophy support, so what?
I don't care if somebody has more trophies than me., so why would I judge somebody for his/her trophies?
I judge the COD kids with only one game on their trophy list (MW2).
muzik_mafia
This.
And Locke always creeped me out with that orange...
TBH I never got my first trophy till like a year after the update; not many games back then supported it.I only think "Hmm, they must have gotten a PS3 recently" if their Trophy level is low
KillerWabbit23
They're just trophies. They don't mean nothing.aerial6790exactly. they're just a fun way to waste time. like achievements as well. don't know if it was mentioned here before, but i can't stand people who brag about their Trophy or Achievement level/GamerScore and rub it in other people's faces like they're better
I saw a guy that had platinums on just about every RPG game with trophies on the Ps3. (Trinity Universe, Star Ocean, Cross Edge, Fallout, Borderlands, FFXIII, WKC, Disgaea).I compete with friends to see who can amass the most, but beyond people I don't know, their PS3 trophy collection will not make me think better or worse of them.
Sloan360
That is usually 50-500 hours spent getting those platinums. When I see stuff like that I respect someone a little more than another person with platinums in Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, hannah montana, and Up
