Laguna is officail announced for the game. Its will be awesome to see how they will have up close combat with him when he uses a gun. And so far the list of new chacters are

Lighting- Final Fantasy 13

Kain- Final Fantasy 4

Tifa- Final Fantasy 7

Vaan- Final Fantasy 12

Laguna- Final Fantasy 8

The game is looking great so far and I can't wait for other new chacters to come. Can't wait for this game.

Also, in the GS images they put up recently, Basch looks like he's confirmed in Dissidia 2.

Actually, that's Gabranth from the introduction to FFXII's story...he's masquerading as his brother, so it is Basch in a sense, but not really the same guy. You can look at the in game images and see he's holding TWO swords. I'm hoping their DLC allows for us to have multiple outfits for everyone (since Cloud has 4 confirmed ones)...Recolors just aren't cutting it. Wonder what Laguna will get for his?

They are...since Laguna, Tifa, and Kain got in, that sets the balance for some of the games at a two Cosmos/Chaos characters vs one Chaos/Cosmos (respectively) character...then again...they'll probably balance out the roster in the other games...but it's generally a rule of 2 minimum per game...considering how Dissidia went (sure Gabranth and Shantotto were standalones for their games, but they were bonus characters). Vaan sadly is more of a classic Final Fantasy role than Basch, since Gabranth killed Reks, Vaan's brother at the beginning of FFXII...but you never know...personally, I'd like to see Ashe, Balthier, Fran, or Vayne in the game as well...OR Shadow from FFVI...WE NEED A STAPLE FIGHTING GAME NINJA...and a joke character...fighting games always gotta have those...oh, wait...Kefka...nevermind. Not to mention...speaking of bonus characters...there might be a possibility for a Kingdom Hearts character (since Cloud gets his KH1 look when people pre-order Birth by Sleep Final Mix in Japan). They did mention the idea of Kingdom Hearts Dissidia during the interviews about the first game: "Originally, we wanted to use the concept for Dissidia Kingdom Hearts. However, it was a bad idea to let Disney characters fight among themselves, then the idea has been used for the Final Fantasy series. KEEP IN MIND NEITHER OF THESE GAMES ARE MADE BY SQUARE-ENIX)...It's slim, but still possible...though, I'm pretty sure fanboys are going to blow this out of porportion...frankly, I'm not gonna hold my breath on this...since it will come as a nice surprise, if it's the case. So...don't despair yet. It's pretty much a 99.9% chance we'll get the original cast of the first game, as well as at least 6 new characters...maybe 5 new ones if Chaos is playable. (Kain, Tifa, Laguna, Vaan, Lightning, and the "?" box on the North American site...probably a FFXIII villain) ...So 27 or 28 characters isn't a bad start for the game...

No matter who makes it into Dissidia 012, it won't matter unless Zack Fair is in the game. Tell me: have you seen ONE person who hasn't complained that Zack Fair hasn't been shown as a playable character in this game? If I were Square Enix I would definitely put him in, because Zack Fair = every single FF fan buying this game = $$$ in Square Enix's pocket.

Nice. But I prefer Balthier or Basch over Vaan any day. Oh well, Im still getting it. And yes, Zack Fair would be an awesome addition.

People, people, people...Cameos and starring roles have to make sense. It may be a fighting game, but let's be honest...Final Fantasy is in the title...when has it not had some semblance of a story? Motivations for why they are fighting, which side they'd be on, what they offer the gamer as a whole. Laguna being in the game gives us a shooter (Not to mention Lightning, who also has a gun...as well as Squall), which makes it less likely to get Balthier, whose signature weapon is the gun. Cloud is shown wielding the Buster Sword, signifying Zack is already no more...need I whine more?

I am that person. In a nutshell: -Zack is dead. =His death is a plot element for Cloud's story for the American release of FFVII. The ending to Crisis Core should tell you enough why he won't be making any future appearances. -Japanese fanbase is not as big for Zack as it is for Cloud because of this. =He is a relatively new character to have been fleshed out in the series. -Cosmos side would have THREE fighters for FFVII, with only one villain. =There needs to be balance. Three characters from the 7 series is more than enough (there are more FF games out there). Besides...didn't Crisis Core come out before Dissidia? But wait...you bought the game without Zack being in it. No one complained about it enough not to buy it. Square-Enix saw enough profit to make a sequel. Case closed. I sound like a jerk putting it like this, but let's face it...one character being the sole reason for why you don't like a game is a rather weak argument, since you're overlooking all the good things because of one flaw you see in it...but hey, DLC is in the game, so you may luck out with an extra costume for Cloud that makes him into Zack (Cloud already has four). However, there are still characters that have simply been overlooked, since Tidus/Jecht beat out Yuna and Seymour because of the stronger storyline... Then again, we also didn't get Lightning in the last game, when she was talked about as being included then dropped at the last minute due to it giving away FFXIII. And now, we have her in this game. It's far more likely we are going to see characters that would have made the cut into the last game being included into this one, plus several we hadn't anticipated at all (a la Kain and Laguna). My personal hope is that the Tactics series will be included. Ramza VS Ultima? That, I want to see, *SPOILERS* especially since Ultima could be possessing Ramza's sister, like at the end of the game.

First of all, balance in the story? It's a SPIN-OFF, it doesn't have to make sense no matter what series it's based on!

And secondly, there's a secret "?" character spot on the Dissidia 012 character page. I'm betting it's someone very popular, very Final Fantasy-ish story wise, and could very well be - Zack Fair. Who else could it be?

And odds are "?" is going to be a Dissidia exclusive character or A FFXIII VILLAIN, but more than likely they're just keeping you uninformed to keep you hopeful. That's the way marketing in America works. Laguna has just been included in the update on the Japanese site, and yet there's STILL no "?" box on the Japanese site. American site has nothing on Laguna yet...is the picture starting to form in your head? It's a red herring because of the differences in marketing between the American and Japanese branches. And scans along with trailers show me a story, and if there's one thing the last game showed it had, it was a story. Based off the last game, I'd assume it's a story that has to make sense by Final Fantasy standards (which often don't disappoint), even if it's a parallel universe. Your reasoning is invalid...have you even played the first game? :?
