How long do YOU expect it to last? I know Sony said 10 years, but I want to try and determine/estimate how long Sony will support PS3/PSN, and continue putting stuff up for it.

I ask because I am starting to gain interest in PS3, but only in what PSN has to offer. A few downloadable full games, some PS1 classics, and some arcade games. However, I don't want to buy one sometime this year and have them announce a PS4 or something in a year or two.

With the features Sony is adding to the PS3 I feel it will last long but with the competition you never know, and I don't think the PS4 will come out in a year or 2 like you guessed because that will be a hit to all PS3 owner especially the ones who bought it for gaming.

the PS3 juste came out a year and a half ago so you don't need to worry there won't be a PS4 before at least another 5 years.

The PS3 will have a lifespan of 10 years alright, look at the PS2, its still going strong. But i dont think they will wait until the PS3 is 10 years old before they release the PS4.

it'll all depend on your definition of how long it'll last. For the last two video game generations there was roughly a 5.5 years gap (about 5.5 year gap from launch of PS1 to PS2,, about 5.5 year gap from launch of PS2 to launched of 360 etc).

The current generation is already aroud 2.5 years old now, and this generation should last shorter than any of the previous ones considering the rapidly advancing graphics industry.

Sony has said this is probaby their last console as we know them to be, although I can see the others bringing out another around 2012. I think they will continue to support the PS3 for another 6 or 7 years, Although I hope for longer since I put alot of $ into it.

I think they might have to release a console within the same time as MS new system which i think will be in like 4-5 years... I don't think sony can take a chance again with the 360 gettin such a lead with excellent games.

It will last as long as the competition decides its gonne last for. Theres no point saying it will last until 2015 if in 2010 MS bring out a console which totally wipes the floor with the ps3.

With the track record of how the PS brand has done things in the past I don't think there will another console for a few more years unlike other companies that wants to release a console every 4 or 5 years.

Lol, the ps3 will be around for as long as YOU... the CONSUMER wants it to be. Hell the PS ONE is still around if you have the knowledge to buy games for it.

So get a ps3 prospective buyer, and relish in all its glory for as long as YOU want to :)
