Sounds like you're getting interference. Is the PS3 near any power cords? Try disconnecting the HDMI cable and see if it goes away.

I had this same problem, but it was much worse. I hooked up my PS3 to an HDTV and I was able to see scrolling bars in the background of the screen. I hooked the PS3 up with component cables directly to the TV instead of through my system selector, and the picture got better, but I could still see the lines. I did some searching and found a thread on the PS3 website that addressed this problem. I don't have a link because it was really hard to find and I'm not about to go digging again. Bottom line you have what is called a "ground loop". It means that your PS3's power supply has two paths to the ground and it is causing interference. If you simply rip out the ground prong (the round one) and then plug in your PS3, you should be fine. I know its a drastic measure so you can try it with a regular PC power cord first and see if it helps. Or you could do what I did and just get one of those two-prong to three-prong adapters. It solved my problem instantly. Now I know what you're thinking. "How can my PS3 survive a power surge without a ground". Just for good measure, I have my PS3 plugged into a surge protector, however that is even unnecessary, because if you remember, the problem stems from the fact that you already have two paths to the ground. Long story short, go to the hardware store and buy one of those 2-3 prong adapters

I had the same problem, like ghaleon stated, you have to buy one of those 3 to 2 prong adapters. or if you don't want to get one, all you gotta do is just unscrew the coxial cable from your television and the lines should go away.

Now that I know the name of the problem, I had a much easier time finding the link. Here it is. Whoever posted this understands it alot better than I do. The solution is still the same so there isn't a real good reason to read it unless you're curious http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=844938

I also had the poblem, last january found the same thread on the PS boards and now the picture is just flawless. Great finding for future reference. (It's hard to keep track of those damn boards, they move so fast)
