Maybe I'm crazy, but Crysis looks very do able on the PS3.

I checked Crysis out running on high graphics, and when compared to Killzone 2 when it comes to character detail they are not that different. Though, I have not seen Killzone 2 graphics in personbut only via online.

Though, the overall level detail in Crysis looks better than what Killzone 2 has to offer. I still think the PS3 would be able to pull of Crysis with enough eye candy to please anyone.

crysis is a pc game...and always will be...until i hear it official thers no way its coming to ps3...besides killzone 2 isnt coming out for another year...so to compare a finished game to one with alot of development left is a really poor comparison that doesnt mean anything

The only thing that's probably not possible on the PS3 is the huge draw distance in levels on Crysis due to less RAM on the PS3, when it comes to graphics Crysis IMO isn't head and shoulders better than Uncharted which has the same jungle setting to compare with. Also keep in mind that we're still very early in the PS3 lifespan even though games like Uncharted and R&C:Future look stunning remember the big leap in graphics from early PS2 games compared to GOW2 and FFXII?

Due to the RAM limitations that are provided by the current-gen consoles, it would be a severly gimped version of Crysis; but it is doable. Just wouldn't look nearly as good.

Crysis looks doable on anything, and I'm not talking about potential.

It really isn't possible on the PS3. Also, try Very High settings on DX10 with 1280x800 resolution and tell me the same thing. Stop playing on Low DX9 800x600.

If Crysis did come to the ps3 they would have to do a lot of change for it like for example;

Back in 2004 the PC had three good looking games, FarCry, Doom3, and Half-Life2 and they proved to be something that the ps2, gamecube, and xbox games could not able to do in graphics and power. Just like the ps3 has the closest power to a pc, the xbox was also close to the pc during those times, and when three of those games ended up on the xbox they were changed. FarCry became a brand new game called Insticts which was shorter game play, graphics were lowered down, AI wasn't as good as FarCry, and finally the game was linear compared to the original one which had opened levels. Then Doom3 on the xbox had its graphics downgraded that it wasn't as good as the pc version and the game had many levels cut off so it was shorter as well. Then finally although Half-life2 was able to be a full game on the xbox and no level was cut off, the multiplayer was removed and the frame rate was bad that it wasn't as nice looking as the pc version.

So Crysis could come to the ps3 but it would need a lot of changes to it to be able to play it.

it wont come to the ps3 for this reason, its not that you cant do it i am sure its possible, but the time it took to make it on the PC i doubt any dev will take the time to break it down again from the ground up for a console, not unless its a spare time project and come out years from now

Crysis only looks good if your willing to pony up the dough to get a rig just to play it. One thing I hate about PC games, always upgrading can be pricey as all hell. Games like Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Killzone 2, Heavenly Sword, and CoD 4 look amazing on the PS3 as of now, and we are in the system's first year. So who knows what the system is really capable of. As far Crysis on the PS3 is concerned, I don't see it happening and it won't bother me if it doesnt come out.

no its not. The game is damn near CG quality. The opening scene where you are woken up in the cargo plane was breathtaking when looking at the character animations and faces. It was like a CG video all done in REALTIME in engine. The game is a technical marvel. Killzone 2 is also great in its on way but its no crysis. now stop with the comparisons please.

The PS3 has a maximum of 512MB of RAM. Crysis on minimum needs 1GB of RAM. Sure if Crytek knew the PS3 like the back of their hand, and were willing to rebuild the game from the ground-up, then maybe it'd work as well as the PC version. Maybe. However they don't.

You are crazy. If you play Crrysis you'll realise that the SUPER high res textures in the game is simply not doable on the PS3 and thats just on the high settings in DX9 which is what I play at. While it is doable on the PS3 with low res, it wouldn't be Crysis anymore. There is no comparison between KZ2 textures and Crysis's, if you have an eye for detail you'll see this.

Look at the resolutions of these textures. You can not stream this, and there simply isn't enough RAM on the PS3 to achieve this level of clarity.

Furthermore Crysis isn't just a shooter, its a world builder and mod tools that comes with it so bringing the complete package to the PS3 is problematic to say the least.

I wouldn't say Crysis itself, but I'd say maybe a Crysis like type of game may be do-able in the future. Once PS3's powers begin to be fully realized and new techniques are applied (anyone remember that compression software article posted here a year ago? Quake 4 quality packed up to a 400k (or so) file with no quality loss what so ever?) Simular things could come up in the future. All I'm saying is, you never know. Not even now, what the PS3 can pull off say 3 or 4 years down the road. All consoles progress, even the NES did.

warhawk manages to have a huge draw distance with other players moving in the distance and still looks pretty friggin good.

To run Crysis on high you need a 8800, ps3's rsx is equivelent of a 7900. It also needs 1-2gb of RAM, ps3 only had 512mb.

I'm maxing crysis and I must say it is not possible on the ps3, at least on very high settings. You really can't judge its graphics by the videos you have to play the game on the highest possible settings. The shadows are the best I have ever seen. Everything in the enviroment casts a real time soft shadow tha changes with the time of day and light source. Even with my gtx I squeeze out 30 fps, 1280 by 1024 no AA.

Most of the "detail" in those pictures is caused by NORMAL maps. I know the PS3 cannot handle Crysis, but it is for entirely different reasons than you think. Not only does the game have to load texture maps, but normal maps and bump maps(which are the same resolution) as well.
