The old SONY phones used the same as the PSP memory sticks....they aren't that expensive if you look around and buy an unofficial one..you can get a 16gb for £30.

I wouldn't say "luckier"; I just shopped around for a while before I finally settled on something. I already have a Sony 2gig and would have liked to stick with the brand, but Sandisk products haven't given me issues in the past so I decided to take a chance on their memory sticks too.

[QUOTE="JNKtastic"]Memory Sticks are proprietary media unlike plain old SD, micro SD, CF, etc cards meaning, they only work with the products of the company that originally created them. In this case, the company in question is Sony. As a result of this exclusivity, they are expensive. I used to own a Clie and a Cybershot camera back when Memory Sticks first came around and as far as I have followed Sony's products, their proprietary Memory Sticks - no matter who manufactures them legitimately (I'm not counting bootleg versions here) - have always been on the more expensive side compared to similar storage media methods. Where I don't enjoy paying additional money, Sony is far from being the only company who engages in this practice of putting out products that exclusively work only with the company's products. Think of it this way. If you have an Apple computer of any sort and you need to get a new power cord, what kind of a power cord do you need to get (that isn't a bootleg)? An Apple-branded power cord, of course. And if the same Apple product needs a new battery, what kind of a battery would you replace it with (that isn't a bootleg?)? An Apple-branded battery, of course.

I don't know if the cord and battery comparison are apt as almost every device from every manufacturer functions that way. Memory cards are more universal. The only similar memory card format to Sony's Memory Stick is the stupid xD one used by Olympus, and as they've even less common they're more expensive again. But in the past year Sony's camera division has finally seen the light and has modified their cameras to support SD. Maybe someday a revision of the PSP will too.

Amazon.com that's the way to go. I got an official Sony 8gb its the second version, mk 2 I think. But anyway, I got that for $30, and you can get a Sandisk 8GB for $20. So I think you should get yours from Amazon.com

How about getting those micro sd to memory stick pro duo converters? I have one and it takes two microsd cards. Put two 8gb microsd cards to get 16gb total and my psp thinks i have a memory stick pro duo.

$20 for each 8gb micro sd card plus $7.50 for the converter. $47.50 for 16gb of flash storage for my psp 3000.

DJ_Lae

That's not a particularly great deal when a 16GB card can be purchased for $40, though. It's also less reliable and slower.

At the time of my posting a class 6 16gb microsd card wasn't available so I went with 2 class 6 8gb microsd cards. I disagree that they are slower or less reliable. Also do u mean that a 16gb memory stick pro duo can be had for $40? I can't find that anywhere online.

32 GB storage in a psp 3000? Check out this thread on the official playstation forum

http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PSP-General/32GB-memory-cards-in-the-PSP-Review/m-p/40571136

Complete breakdown of the usage, costs etc of using micro sd cards with an adaptor for your psp. It's quite simple and it works as evidenced by the 52+ page thread.

you think the prices of mem sticks today are crazy? I had an original psp purchased at launch. I looked hard to fnd a a good size mem stick for cheap. at the time I bought it, there were no sticks over 1 or 2 gigs around the different stores. I settled on a half gig mem stick for $55. so yeah, I would gladly drop $90 on something that is 32 times bigger in capacity.

next, you can find them cheap now... browse the web, def. check out amazon and you can probably snag one for way cheap.

good luck!

I understand having your own products for your main products, but What I am saying is. They would make more money if they would lower the price on certain items...for example the Memory Stick comes naked...its blank...nothing is on it. You are buying empty space for 89 bux?? A 16GB stick cost more than a PS3 game people. When I bought my 4GB card I thought I was going take a while to fill it...but it is full now. I paid 44 bux for it at Target. Now with PSN having so much good stuff on it. I have no space to put the files I download so that keeps me from purchasing more files. I may have to just get a bootleg like other people keep saying...but I have heard stories about files curruption and files breaking on the low brand sticks. Its just space Sony. The Sticks probably dont even cost that much to make....I dont understand this heavy overprice for a memory stick.

I wouldn't trust ebay to get memory sticks. There are quite a few fake ones on there.

I went to Wal Mart the other day and found a 16GB stick for $70 CAD.

The 16GB one I got from ebay for less than $40 sure works great and has the full 14+ GB capacity available for storage. If it's a US seller (or seller outside of China) with great feedback, there's a lot greater chance of getting exactly what they advertise.

Edit: Mine's an official Sony brand memory stick that came brand-new in the package.

You can get a SanDisk 16 GB for like $30 on eBay. The only reason I haven't bought one is because I'm broke.

Well when you think about it you're getting 4 times the space for about half the price it would be

4x4 = 16 _ 40 x 4 = $160 _ 16gb = $90

Look out for sales. I got my 4gb memory stick for 20 bucks :P

I got my 8GB for about 30 :D

I just checked amazon and found 16GB for $35 and 32GB for $90. I agree that the 32GB is not so cheap but 2 16GB is less than that and it's not really so bad. I've never been able to fill my PSP Go's 16 GB HDD even with 15 games on it with tons of music as well.
