I thought it was a great on-line shooter for a 3rd person game. Only real game I can compare it to is SOCOM. Yet I find SOCOM more run and gun. While MGO definitly takes planning. But I geuss it depends on your style of play. You can run and gun in MGO but you'll be missing out on half of what the game really is.
Nothing like stalking a person or setting up a trap. I was playing this game pretty much nonstop since beta started. Sad thing is that I purchased the COD4 map pack and ended up playing a different game. I did stop for a little bit to play GTA and beat it. But as soon as I got done with it. I went back to MGO and couldn't put is back down.
To me the funnest thing about playing on-line is competitiveness. People went after you like they had a vendetta or somthing. Things always went crazy playing that one mode with the frog. (Best mode in my opinion.) In this game there was nothing like knocking out another person with CQC then taking out his partner. What about cutting people's throats? Having 3 knocked out poeple in front of you as you take the last base. Or winning as Snake in the last 20 secs of a sneak mode.
I'm not saying I was great in the game. I barely had a 1:1 ratio. I just had allot of fun. When I played I felt the same aggressiveness I felt in COD4, SOCOM and CS. It's these type of games I look foward to playing time and time again. Though they need some improvements. If the game came out and they didn't change a thing other than more maps, modes, and weapons. I'd still be happy with it. People loved it and some people hated it. I'm pretty sure they'll be more than enough people that will be playing it next month so it doesn't really matter to me. :)

Socom is the same way my friend. It all depends on the way you play the game.
