A price drop on the actual system makes zero cents (spelt that way on purpose). They already lose money on every console sold lol

it does clear out older models so newer models can be put on the shelves asap
Wait, Sony still loses money on every PS3 sold? I was pretty sure they cut production costs by like 30% or something. :?A price drop on the actual system makes zero cents (spelt that way on purpose). They already lose money on every console sold lol

This makes far more business sense than dropping the price $100...why not sell your "system selling" exclusive titles? Technically, these bundled games count towards game sales...
Seriously...add in a Bluetooth headset and HDMI cableand you've got yourself a really good deal...
"Giving away" these accessories still makes more sense than dropping the console price down to $300...

I was not aware that they had cut production costs by 30%. I still think they lose money on every console sold though. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!
Yes! Bundling Killzone and headsets would be a very smart thing to do. 1. You're increasing game sales. 2. strengthening your main online game's community. 3. By giving them a headset, you make the user more exited about gaming online and joining up with friends, something xbox has done so well. This makes far more business sense than dropping the price $100...why not sell your "system selling" exclusive titles? Just think of it as a price drop.
Just that the money you save from the price drop is used to buy MGS 4 and KZ2.:P Not like it's a bad thing.:P Well unless you don't like either game.:?
Very good bundle. Sony did a good job with this. It will definitely attract gamers for getting a PS3 by coming with the two biggest exclusives the system has to offer.
Key word there is gamers though. Casuals will still see the $400 and completely ignore the PS3.
DAMNIT!
I payed 400 for a PS3 and bought those two game separately a month ago. AHH, I could've saved 70 dollars.
That certainly is a great deal, but unfortunately I think people only see that $400 price tag whenever they walk into the store.

That's the thing right there. Good deal or not, many (most) people will only see the price tag. If people could see value, they would know that the current value of the PS3 is very high considering all it can do. That tells me that people are concerned about price more so then value.
Here's another point. Many times I'm in a store and I see a PS3 being purchased, and the purchaser decides against buying a game on the spot. The clerk is trying to get the buyer to buy a game, and I hear the buyer saying "I think $400 is enough for today".
This is an excellent deal, no doubt, but consumers seem to be more concerned with the initial cost-to-own. I'm not sure that seeing that the system comes with games is enough for them, even if it is a better deal.
