Can you believe that, imagine the game its going to be UGE¡¡¡ (there's no other game that big in the world). But in the where i read that they didin't mention anything about using a lot of the processing power of the PS3.

It's great to see the developpers working on maximizing both the Blu-ray discs and the processing power of the PS3, and pretty quickly too, MGS 4 is gonna be legendary!!!
this is the reason i got a ps3, as games get better they need more space and sony was thinking ahead... like always
The game itself doesnt even need to use the space, take a look at John Woos Stranglehold, the PS3 version comes with a complete film in HD :)this is the reason i got a ps3, as games get better they need more space and sony was thinking ahead... like always

Don't be expecting a game 5 times longer than the average. If true, most of that will go into textures, sound effect and voice overs. I doubt the game would be much longer than other MGS.

That's true, it might not be longer (gameplay wise) but I wouldn't mind it being longer simply because of cutscenes. I mean I love the MGS series because it's very theatrical, and I love watching the CS's, I don't know if anyone remembers 'The Bouncer' for the ps2 back in the day but that was basically a video game movie, and you played the fight sequences XD it wasn't a bad game, but it could have been better. At least with MGS Kojima takes the right approach with Gameplay and cutscenes. I hope he throws in a movie viewer like in Metal Gear 3 Subsistence

I also like the cutscenes because I like a great story in a video game. It usually keeps me playing much longer because I want to know what happens next.
And from what I heard from various sources, MGS4 is set on a battle field, and you have no fixed side as ally or enemy, that your actions will determine how they react to you. So there could be multiple cutscenes that you cannot see in a playthrought because they will changed based on what you did. Even if they use the gameplay engine, they still take space on the disc. If they add a lot of those possibilities, then the game would get much bigger.

Man...If they really have various CS's depending on your actions....that just up'd the replay value even more (not that I wont keep replaying it after i'm done XD)

stranglehld coulda been made on regular dvd. Its not all that complex of a game in my opinion. And it is made for 360 too!!

I think they'll do it, since MGS3 had such a thing but on a lower scale.
It was cool to check the cutscene tree and trying to figure out how to get a specific cutscene. There wasn't that much alternatives, but having them on a tree showed very well that some scenes had multiple alternatives. I hope MGS4 does the same but with many more cutscenes.
funny thing is watch the next ff game be about half that size because SE is getting lazy. I hope the next FF game is at least that size or bigger.odin2019
The FFXIII team praised Blu-Ray many times. It's not because the CEO of SE finds the next-gen consoles too complex that everyone under him agrees.

If they don't want to make good money for their work than they can half @** the game all they won't and they won't make near the amount of money as they would if they were to put in a good job like everyone else that makes a solid game.
I realize that SE makes rpgs and these can take more time and money to produce but hey if they don't take advantage of what the ps3 is capable of well you should see a hell of an rpg from White Knight Story. This game will make FFXIII look like $*** if SE doesn't do their job the right way.

It's the games that need to use that space, it's just that multiplatforms and current PS3 games aren't using the potential of that monster of a machine called PS3. You'll see, sooner or later time will tell...

YUP, I remember playing THE Bouncer* on PS2 I really liked that game then, on to MGS4 though I have a question for you guys... I wanted to know if some of the cutscenes in MGS series are pre-rendered and since the PS3 can have great graphics, will Kojima only make those theatrical cutscenes in real time or pre-rendered them to makethem look even more realitic than the actual gameplay??? Id like Kojima to have pre-rendered cinematic cutscence to make em seem almost lifelike, but I do remember that some of those cutscense also ressemble the gameplay quality too, in the whole series.

All cutscense from msg 2 or 3 are in-game engine rendered, from the demo of msg4, the cutscenes are also in-game engine rendered.

I find this very hard to believe. I've played all the Metal Gear Solids and they can all be beaten in less then 5 hours. So I'm calling **** on this rumor.
And I doubt it's using much of the PS3's processing power. Since the game isn't looking that great anymore visually.

Read my earlier posts. My guess is that the 'huge' will go in replayability with the different alternative depending on your actions. It would be impossible to do everything in a single playthrought, so yes, you could probably completed the game in 5 hours, but you would see barely a fraction of the game. By doing something different somewhere, you could change some cutscenes or add new onws. That's what I think they'll do.
"Kojima sais he needs a 50gb blu ray disc for the 7.1 uncompressed audio soundtrack"
this will be the first game ever made to be in 7.1 (very exciting)
most people dont know what that is, and dont even care, they just know ofgeneric "surround sound" they dont understand the whole concept of it at all, but how could you expect them to
but the very few people who do own a reciever capable of 7.1 (the minimum price for one is about a thousand bucks or more, then add on another couple thousand for 7 high quality speakers)are going to have the ultimate gaming experience when they play.
mine only does 5.1 dolby digital, with polk audio speakers,it sounds extremely lifelike whenplaying resistance(i would like to get a 7.1 someday) , can't imagine how good a game inuncompressed 7.1would sound, especially a game like metal gear
the only thing that blows is your gonna have to spend 3 grand if you want to get a quality 7.1 set up, which most normal people wont, most households are still using sd tvs with the tv speakers ( also realize that 2or 3grand for a set of speakers is quite a normal price, true audiophiles will spend 10 grand on just one pair of speakers, and im talking 7) the brands that you see for low low prices, (jensen, etc.) are made out of paper platesand practically worthless
and sony is a good company that makes good tvs and all, but when it comes to sound their speakers just do not match up to infinity or polk audio, etc.
in a nutshell.... about 5 percent of ps3 owners are going to care about the 7.1 audio or even are capable of utilizing it, as for the future, who knows
oblique465
Wrong on a lot of accounts. Resistance is 7.1 PCM. Lair will be 7.1 PCM.
There are receivers in the $400 range that can handle 7.1 PCM (I just got a brand new Onkyo 605 for that price). TheYamaha 661 is supposed to be very good as well. I have yet to set-up my 7.1 system as I am awaiting some installation of some wiring... but I have 3.1 set up right now. Iam way more impressed with the sound than I thought I would be. I compared the 5.1 soundtrack fo Blood Diamond in both digital and PCM, and it is a noticeable difference. I invited a friend over and did a blind test, switching the audio formats and he guessed PCM was better every time.
Anyhow, I have the Polk RM 6750 (5.1) set-up, plus two additional satellite speakers for 7.1... and my home theater system cost a total of $750. It isn't cheap by any means and doesn't apply to everyone, but I just wanted to let you know that your $2K estimate is off base. I played Resistance and played COD3, and Resistance dominates in the soudn department.

The retail price is store is FAR difference from what devs prices when their print games. DVDs were over 25$ in 2000, but they never costed that much to produce. It's just that when a product is new, the retail price is high. And that's the price for a single Blu-ray disc. Buy 4 millions and you'll save a LOT. Just like CDs. One is 1$, but you can get like 50 for 10$.
i find it hard to believe that MGS4 is exceeding 48 GIG's of DISC SPACE.
Last time i read, Kojima Productions was exceeding 25 GIGS of disc space, as of the beginning of this year.
I call BS.

BTW if you can compress into DVD-9... Why can't you compress onto Blu-ray? If that happens then you can literally put 3 Mass Effects on one disk

becos the blu-ray drive on ps3 is at a speed of 2X. so if it was compressed, the whole game would lag like crap. unlike the DVD becos the dvd drive runs faster.
correct me if im wrong. o.O
ok u could put compressed sound and all but isnt this next gen?? why do we want compressed?? we want all next gen, its not just graphics or gameplay, its the entire game, sound, graphics, gameplay. why do i want 2 out of 3 only??
i bought my next gen console i want my next gen games, it just hurts that devs have to go semi-next gen just cuz 9 million idio..i mean people bought a semi-next gen console.
my opinion.
