MGS4 will be an epic masterpiece, 10 or no 10.

Ha, I've read some of the posts saying "If MGS4 doesn't get a 10, I'd be worried.", "I'll wait till IGN reviews it...," or some other posts similar to that effect.

Why do you all put so much stock on reviews? If you have played the previous MGS games and remotely liked any of them, why should it matter what the score will be? Some sites have already thrown out AAA, perfect 10s, or 100s. That's all cool but for me, unless the game is broken, glitchy, or unplayable, I could care less what any gaming site will say about MGS4. This is the most highly anticipated PS3 exclusive title at this very moment. Now that Kojima has completed his project, all we can do now is just wait. This game has made me do impractical things like pre-order, to which I hardly do. I feel that I am one of the most patient people ever but just knowing that MGS4 is done and won't be released until June 12th, I can't wait for that day to come. MGS4 won't be no "X game killer." MGS4 won't "kill" anything, whether it's games from the rival console or other PS3 games. All that talk is unnecessary. MGS4 will be in a class of its very own.

im not a fan of the mgs but reviews are all based on getting more viewers and not really on the games merits. i am almost positive ign and gamespot will not give it a ten since its so close to gta4 and the buzz behind giving those tens were that they haven't given out that score in ages. now if they do two 10 within weeks of each other it would just completely ruin there whole marketing concept of the ten score.

not saying it will not be a great game, im just saying they will not give it a ten because of how close it is to gta4. though i have to say once again who cares what they give it kojima knows the fans and he alwasy seems to exceed there expectations so who really cares what a handful of random strangers think about the game.

i never saw why people felt the need to validate there gaming choices with random bloggers (i don't consider them gaming journalist since they have no real credentials, gamespot ign 1up there more like blogs then publications in my opinion).

I think people need to realise that a game doesn't need to get a high score of 9, 9.5 etc to determine if it is great or the best games ever.

Fans of the series will be waiting to get their hands on this, and I personally can't wait.

Loll ign would give metal gear solid a 1000 :lol: , ign always gives ps3 exclusives good ratings, ratchet & clank 9.4 , uncharted 9.1, resistance 9.2 , so im 99% sure that ign would give mgs a ten, now as for a gamespot, its pretty hard to tell because the site is biased, i dont think they have give ps3 exclusives a 9 let alone a ten,

will see, my point (long winded as it was) is that who cares what they give it. it doesn't mean anything esepcially in this case because history has shown that kojima has always more then exceeded the fans expectations. ign and gamespot are the same though, there buisness trying to gain more viewers and sell more add space.

they're entitled to their own opinion but there scores seem to be dictacted more by ad space then game content. also my point went to credibility, if thye gave two ten scores so close to each other it would make the ten score pretty much worthless since it means more when its rare.

in the end i think the fans will be to busy playing the game to pounder over the scores lol.

Well I have nothing against GTA one bit. I own the game and think it's great. But I truly believe that MGS4 will be a much more polished work of art. It will be a piece of gold that every PS3 gamer should have.

Would you refuse to play it if it got a score lower than a 9? I think it is crazy to judge the greatness of a game off of a review. Your opinion of a game should be made of your own judgement. Reviews are just other peoples opinions.

With that said the MGS series is great. It will be great whether it gets a 10 or not.

GameSpot would probably not do it (despite MGS4 deserving it) because then people will think that they're going soft on ratings. GameSpot (being suckups) will not do it just in case of the rage.

But dammit! It had better be a really high score (10 or 9.5 if they're feeling mean :P)

Here we go with sales... If I went by charts and figures revealing games that outsell other games, I'd be one frustrated gamer and give up on gaming.

So just because the games like GTA, GT, NFS, etc outsell other games, then that automatically means other gamers should buy it? That it's a must own? How often are those games that sell well translate to customer satisfaction? Don't get me wrong, sales are important financially for a business pushing products to the general public. Similar to the games you mentioned, the Halo franchise has done extremely well in sales. As big as that game is, I was somewhat surprised to have read so many gamers dissatisfied with it. It won't matter for Bungie at that point because they got the sale. But is it a must own game? I have had the opportunity to play NFS Underground. I like racing games and knew someone who owned it so I wanted to try it out. After playing that game, I was glad that I didn't purchase it. My friend had regret his purchase for his own reasons. He bought it because it was extremely "popular" and cheap at the time.

My point is that "must own" games should not always be the top sellers just because they outsold everything else. When I said that MGS4 should be a must own or is a piece of gold, it's not because that it will get a high score in reviews or that it will be a top seller. It's because I believe it will be a top quality game that every PS3 gamer should not miss out on. At least for gamers that are remotely interested in tactical and stealth games.

Not sure if this is accurate but according to VG, MGS2 sold around 5.6M I'm not saying the series is not popular, of course it is. But they are hardly the must buy franchise that the original poster think it is. At least according to VG, franchises like GTA, Gran Turismo, Need for Speed Underground on PS2 all managed to significantly outsell the MGS2&3. I mean look at current-gen, games like Gears, Halo 3, Mario Galaxy all managed to outsell MGS2&3 even with a much smaller userbase. Again, I'm sure the MGS4 will sell well and fans of the franchise will enjoy it,, but its hardly the piece of gold that every PS3 owners should have.nohnaimer

If the game is well done in all aspects, it deserves a 10, regardless how many times a day, month or year that happens. It's unfair and single minded to review and score games any other way.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is not even out yet, and I already know what I'll be doing on June 12. MGS4 screams quality and hard work. It deserves to be up there with every 10 score game. You don't need to wait until June 12 to know that.

I'm biased towards it? Yes, I'm. when I see a top quality product as a gamer for the last 15+ years, I tend to appreciate it - but that's only my point of view.

Im not sure if it will get a 10 from alot of the main sites, probably because this game is more like a shooter and im sure that other 3rd person games have better controls than MGS. Played MGO and noticed taht controls have been improved alot but still not as easy as other shooters.

However, I do wish that MGS4 will get high score for most reviews and end up having tons of people buying this game. MGS4 deserves to have loads of sales.

And that's what really matters. Your interest in the game. Not because of it's potential position in the VG charts or that gaming sites give it a 10.

Though with their new grading scale it does have a better chance.
