I just can't see how the game would work on the box....if there is a need for a 50gb disc that can only mean that if it is ported it can only be of lower quality on the box version.

MGS4 will come to xbox360 eventually, but not on 4-8 dvd discs. They may possibly release an HD-DVD version within 6 months, but more likely there will be a low-texture DVD version 12+ months after the PS3 release.

MGS has always done the best job they can on games, I don't see them sacrificing their high quality standard for the immediate gratification of isntant sales. Therefore, I see it as impossible that the PS3 will not get the version that's been previewed so far (which is probably signficantly complete at this point anyway).

there will never be an HD-DVD version of ANY GAME. Microsoft's add-on HD-DVD drive is for MOVIES ONLY.

Eclipsed - are you saying it's technically impossible for the 360 to have an HD-DVD game play on it's HD-DVD drive?

Assuming the HD-DVD drive can function normally as a data drive, and is not hardware confined to only video i/o it should be possible.

I'm not saying that games will ever be released exclusively for HD-DVD, but I would not be surprised if "special edition" versions are ultimately released on HD-DVD to reward those who bought the addon.

I am saying that Microsoft would never be that stupid as to release games on a media format that is an OPTION to it's userbase. That would further divide the userbase and would be suicide for a console maker.

lets say they release MGS4 on an HD-DVD. This means that ONLY HD-DVD add-on users would be able to play it. Talk about a small userbase. Then, if somebody without the HD-DVD drive wanted to play it, they would have to spend $200 for the drive, and then buy the game.

trust me, with HD-DVD being an optional attachment for the 360, Microsoft will NEVER release a game on an HD-DVD disc.

if they did release a "special edition" on HD-DVD, it would show that DVD9 is not a standard that will last this entire generation. It will also show that Microsoft put inferior technology into the 360.

Maybe he's looking at the 360 hardware because of future games they're planning to release, what else could Konami release? Maybe another Contra?alzdaman

I guarantee. Microsoft has already stated that the HD-DVD is strictly for movies and will not be used for games. Even releasing games on both DVD and HD-DVD would show that the DVD9 format is inferior...contrary to what Microsoft has repeatedly stated.

becuse the 360 does not have a hddvd drive...

And the hddvd drive available for 200 bucks is movie only...thats why.

Don't get pissed at me. I was fairly certain that the HD-DVD drive could handle an HD-DVD game if microsoft were to release one, which is what I said above.
However, you'll also notice above that you said it was for "MOVIES ONLY" which is why I was asking if anyone knew something I did not about the HD-DVD drive being data restricted in any way.
Also I did search online and found evidence that it could in fact handle an HD-DVD game disc in it, but I really just wanted you to come back and admit it could.

I never said it can't happen(meaning technically impossible). I said it was MOVEIS ONLY, because of the reason stated above. I also said it wouldn't happen...because the reason stated above.

Microsoft believes in their compression technology. They will live and die by it before they change.

What I don't get is why some people have this mindset that Sony doesn't deserve to have any third party exclusives. Likes it's going to benefit the gaming industry as a whole if Sony lost all there big third party exclusives. 360 loyalists have plenty of good solid titles to look forward to. Why must some of you be so greedy that you'd want to take some of the PS3 best games away. The PS3 deserves to have just as many good solid titles as 360 and Wii do.
