I havent played either, but phantasy star hasent been good since pso episode 1 and 2, anyone who had talent on team sonic (the creators of phantasy star online) left with the downfall of the dreamcast. Im not surewho at sega was in charge of this one but i can bet you its not gunna be great.
So which one do you guys prefer? Both seem interesting (though I still don't understand why after a half hour of hack and slash a supposedly simple monster won't go down for me in MH) and I was just wondering if any of you guys would have some input. I was going to get one or the other. MH is a more medieval dragon slayer while Phantasy Star is a futuristic hack and slash with sword and magic twists. So which one would you guys recommend? Pro's and con's for each? xXDante666XxI've played both, however it really depends on what you like. The combat in MH is just so horrific that its a major turn off for me. Both games have good graphics however monster hunter's graphics are superior. Gameplay wise I liked Phantasy star, theres plenty of classes and different playstyles to play around with, same goes for Monster Hunter but again the combat muddles it.Phantasy Star has lots of different levels and bosses however the environments are extremely bland, In Monster Hunter there are fewer regions to explore but theyre all gorgeous and unique hosting different materials and monsters. Monster Hunter has some unique twists such as the hunting mechanic, you never actually level up in the game you just get better materials, In phantasy star you level up and buy weapons and armor to boost your stats. I like phantasy Star mainly becausee its much more playable, of course its more simple but thats part of what Makes me like it. Monster Hunter is for the person looking for a more Unique RPG who is able to overlook its combat shortcomings.
I prefer Phantasy Star from the get go; I recall playing it all the time on a friends Dreamcast, and the game is amazing. The game on the PSP IMO wasn't as good as on the console, but still, pretty good for a portable game, eh? I personally belive they're tied, as they both have some major pros and cons. Only problem that I have with MHFU is that their ad campaign was not that good, and not worth it.... And it made it seem like only tough-scene kids can play it. Not the case. Anyways, I believe them to be tied.
link to that? lol i have to see this... Only problem that I have with MHFU is that their ad campaign was not that good, and not worth it.... And it made it seem like only tough-scene kids can play it. Not the case. Anyways, I believe them to be tied.

I gotta know what about MHFUs combat is so horrific you throw such negatives around but never really explain what about it throws you off.
I enjoyed the PSU demo but MHFU reignited the fire I had way back when on the original MH, except the game is a hell of a lot better this time around.
i have never played phantasy star but will be sure to look it up. Although i do own mhfu. monster hunter is slightly boring after a while and the combat can vary. but it depends how you play the game if you have friends and if you have the actual brains to play the game. it is simply like marmite you either love it or you hate it, or your crap at it or good at it. i also own x link kai which improves mhfu massively. i will check phantasy star out but in my honest opinion mhfu with x link kai is one of the best things you can get on a PSP so i would buy that

Horrific camera and lack of a lock on system, forces you to line up yourself with the monster which is a chore on the left thumb, and it really comes out into an akward control scheme, hours in it became less of a hassle but I figured why do chores when I could play phantasy starThat's nice for you. The Phantasy Star demo made me want to throw up. I played about 25 hours of MHFU before I got distracted by other games. (I know I've barely scratched the surface yet... I'll go back to it one of these days)i've only played the demos for both, but I easily prefered Phantasy Star over Monster hunter.

I have tried it and will no doubt return to try again as trading it in is not an option, but the not-so-friendly controls are a bit of a put-off. It's not very easy to find your groove on the game, but it IS a wonderfully programmed game in terms of scale and graphic punch... I'm super-impressed with it from that stand-point and it's one of the reasons the game still intrigues me while I'm turned off at the same time. I tend to believe in what people say about getting used to it and finding the magic ("Tiger Woods" can be the same way, where you only suck artificially in the beginning but once you take off on it, you're golden), butI haven't crossed that tipping point with it yet... perhaps I'll use a strat-guide...
