My main question is can the PS3 Hard drive save PS1 and PS2 memory files? and if not are the Memory slots?

Is the Web browser any good? can you download files from the sites you go on(ie. game saves.)?

Overall is the dashboard and Media guide user friendly, like on a scale of 1-10. This question could best be answered by people who own a PS3 and 360, like how it compares to the 360s functionality.

Also Is HD really necessary like all of the lemmings in SW say it is. Ive played the PS3 a couple of times, but that was only in HD.

Help is much appreciated.

- Yes, the hard drive can save PS1/2 files. You can also transfer your old saves via a memory card adapter.

- The XMB (Cross Media Bar) is extremely user friendly. I give it a 9/10

- HD is not necessary, but it is recommended since it provides the best gaming experience.

Web browser? I haven't found it to be of much use. I think it's easier to just download files with my laptop, transfer them (e.g. gamesaves) to a thumb drive, and then insert the drive into the PS3.

User interface? I like the simplicity of the XMB. It's very user friendly (how much simpler could it get? Scroll up and down to see more options. Scroll left and right to see options from another category) and again, allows you to navigate the system without tons of information screaming at you.

HD really necessary? Nope. Is it much better with an HDTV? Absolutely.

As in customizable soundtracks? Can not have our own ingame music, we also can not pull up the XMB durring a game yet. Give Sony some time, and we will eventually have these much desired features.

You can save ps1 and ps2 games on the hard drive with a adapter

the cross media bar is easy to use, I knew what I was doing right out of the box (can't really say so with the 360)  so compared to the 360 the ps3 gets a 10/10

HD is really nice, but not nessecary

well that sucks, but like Im going to complain, I dont have a surround sound CD player &Ipod for nothing so who cares. But without being able to pull up the XMB during a game, is it hard to invite your friends into a room(sorry, but in no nothing outside of XBL)

The PS3 can "create" PS1/PS2 memory cards using free space on the HDD. The only caveat I can see to this is that you cannot specify the size of the memory "cards" (they default to 7998kb for the PS2 and 120kb for the PS1).

The web browser isn't bad. I like that they somewhat improved on the design used in the PSP. I don't use it much simply because I do all my web browsing at work on my work computer.

The XMB is exactly like the PSP's XMB so if you've used a PSP, you'll know exactly what to expect. I'd give it an 8.5/10, as it is much smoother than the 360's Dashboard, but doesn't have as much functionality as the 360. As other posters have said, this will change over time, as Sony brings improvements to it.

HD isn't necessary, but when you compare games that are of both quality you'll definitely prefer HD. HD allows you to view games with much more clarity and quality and this could enhance your gaming experience. Just keep in mind that for now, HD is just a buzzword meant to entice you into a purchase (for both 360 and PS3). The proof will come in the near future as developers begin to use the advantages of HD for the benefit of us gamers.

I have a 60GB PS3 and haven't had any problems so far. I also haven't heard of anything bad with the 20GB PS3 so if the seller is reputable, I'd say go for it unless you want WiFi and Media Card Reader. You can always upgrade the hard drive yourself, so that's a non-issue (which I'm upgrading mine to a 160GB HDD so if you want a 60GB HDD, let me know cause I have no use for it after the upgrade).

I have no need for WIFI so it looks like Ill be getting the 20Gb ps3 as soon as i get a job, which is as soon as I turn 16(in a month) so it wont be to long now. Thanks and also thanks for the 60GB hard drive offer, but I doubt ill be needing that much memory, This is going to be for playing exclusives and last gen games and a little bit of online, Ill probably use my 360 for Multiplat and Live and Content.

I'm sorry to disappoint you but Sony has discontinued the 20gb version. That means that the retailer longer have the 20gb in stock.
