Final Fanasy X has got to be overall the most depressing game I have ever played (and my favorite too). The first time you play it you may or may not realize just how sad the game is until you are hit with plot twist after plot twist, but every subsequent time you replay it after that, you realize just how sad this game is from the very beginning, knowing what is going to happen and all.. MGS3 and 4 were also sad, but not throughout the entirety of their stories. Both of them mostly hit you with sadness at the end.bluem00se

Yeah, I definitely got that, too. I mean, the first time through, it was very sad--I think I might've even cried a little at the ending--but with subsequent playthroughs it hits my heart like a sack of bricks. I can't hear "Suteki Da Ne" or "To Zanarkand" without taking half a trip to Sadland anymore.

Playing Crisis Core and knowing what was going to happen the whole time made it very depressing because you didn't want to get attached to the character but you did just to have it all taken away.

The darkness when your GF dies, also when your watching TV with her. It just kind of makes me relate it to someone in my own life, I think that's why it was so sadening.

The most depressed I ever felt while playing a game was in FF7 when Sephiroth dropped his Mesamune blade through Aerith's back while she was praying to the Holy. Man, it was so painstaking. You have to watch this beautiful character get a sword through the heart and have her killer laugh in your face just before you have to throw down on a big boss battle. The whole time that sad @ss music is playing so even though you're in the middle of a boss battle you can't get it out of your head what just happened. Seriously, I cried and cried and cried. I cried when it happened. I cried during the fight. I cried afterwards when Cloud lowered her into the water. I cried after I saved and turned the Playstation off. I cried myself to sleep that night. That was DEPRESSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The beginning of MGS4 always seems sad to me. More so, the music.

Indigo Prophecy was overall incredibly depressing, but no other game has had a more depressing ending than Metal Gear Solid 3, especially when you play the entire game hating The Boss' guts.

Scianix-Black

I agree with Indigo Prohecy. It begins with you feeling confused and kinda sad for the guy. ANd it only gets worse. and worse... and my god does it get weird.. XD

Most of the game out for the generation and I mean the 3D or in other words, 7th gen games only focused on giving players the feel of action. MGS4 would be an example that the game itself blended in a vast amount of blockbuster scenes, good story telling as well as givingp players enough action. In other words, developers now should focus on telling a good story and I don't mean some cutscenes while giving players alot of action. Throughout much of my experience playing PS3 games, the most depressing would be Dark Sector.

Also, given the proliferation of financial difficulties due to piracy and other sorts of I dont know what, multiplatforming is exactley one of the reasons why they cant make something like MGS4, in terms of story and good script. They focus on the money first. If you look at previous games like Golden Axe beast rider, it offers decent gameplay (still needed much improvement) but lacks a story and features only cutscenes which portrays and informs the user that it is the next area they need to arrive/get to. Games like Resident Evil 5, offers good gameplay in their own concept (3rd person) but still lack a better story to portray character emotions, like putting a camera in a room and watching them interact with each other, Chris and Sheva. Because most of the cutscenes are a few minutes long: Sheva, this way, take cover! then it moves to gameplay. There are some scenes which offer a decent amount of action in RE5 but it needs alot more... MGS4 magnum opus; portraying that once was, epic, brilliant and awesome storytelling.

At the end of Elmo's Letter Adventure, I couldn't stop crying. It was such an amazing game, and it just had to come to a stop. Pogoing for letters never got old, and I will always remember it.

That "Interactive Art" game on the PSN. I have no idea why but it made me so depressed for some reason. Duckman5
Dude I totally agree. It was weird but it seemed like it was the end of something. Something crazy like that that made me down.
