It happend around 7.30pm "This is not happening, this is not happening.."- Sora KH2

My 60GBPS3 has stopped working and has the yellow light of death.

I was busy playing Valkyria Chronicles and my PS3 just switch off by itslef I thought it was a power-cut but nope I was wrong. It was in fact

Yellow Light of Death plus also my copy of Valkyria Chronicles is stuck in there too.

I'm going to phone SONY tomorrow to see if I can get this console repaired, but if not odds are I'll lose half of my game saves and get a new console. But luckly I've transfered some of them on my PSP memory stick with titles like-

  • Folklore
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Disgaea 3
  • Resistance Fall of Man
  • Devil May Cry 4
  • Possibly Killzone 2

But ods are I might lose some of my saves like-

  • Valkyria Chronicles (Which I'm currently playing )
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Harry Potter Half Blood Prince
  • Eternal Sonata

Most PS2 saves are still on my PS2 memory cards and memory sticks (Such as FF12 AND 10, KH series, Okami, and DMC 3 ). Luckly I've havn't lost my Silent Hill 4 save which I've still havn't finished yet.

Sony will ask for $150 for a refurbished console. You could try fix it yourself but its a delicate procedure and I ended fixing the yellow light but breaking the blue ray drive lol. So I personally went out and bought a new console. Sold a few games and what not. I recommend you do the same because a refurbished console always runs a risk of getting the ylod again, ESPECIALLY if it's a 60gb. Not too mention you could use your 60gb for spare parts and sell them, the blue ray drive alone goes for about $70. Hope that helped :)

If you send it to Sony for repairs, will they fix your PS2 BC PS3 or will they just send you a random one that's not PS2 compatible?

Nope, if you send them a 60gb ps3 they'll send you a refurbished 60gb back.

To get that disc out try truning off the main power switch....1. Hold down the Disk Eject and flip the main power switch. This might eject your game.

To let you know I just Mailed in my 60GB on 10/20, and I't made it to sony and I'm currently tracking UPS and I will receive my New/Refurb PS3 on the 28. Fast service but if you diddn't extend your warranty than it's 160 bucks...which aint bad.

Seems this thread is back from the dead. Anyhoo, I also got YLOD on my 60 gig for the first time on the 7th of october. I was playing the uncharted 2 Beta.3 I finally got around to sendin it in on the 17th. I tracked it with UPS as well and it should be here tomorrow, the 26th of october. My COD 4 was stuck in there though. I didn't know about the eject fail safe.I hope i get it back.

I've heard that the YLOD doesnt only have to do with the GPU getting out of place, but it is slightly possible that the HDD is ruined. But I'm not sure about that.

Nope and nope, it's the heatsink that needs to be reapplied and reflowed. The HDD is completely in tacked

I had the same problem when I was playing Devil May Cry 4. It suddenly turned off on me, I came to the conclusion you did and thought it was the power. So I turned it back on and resumed playing. It turned off on me 3 other times at the exact same spot practically. I finally ejected my game and left it off for the day. When I tried again, it showed the YLOD. I had multiple opportunities to get my game back, I was lucky I guess. Most just get the yellow light right away. After I got it replaced from Sony, I sold that thing on craigslist after having it for a couple of months. To help pay for the Slim, best decision ever. It was only a matter of time before that one went kaput on me too. So, anyone who has an early model and says its not going to happen to you because you take care of your system. Know that that is not true at all. Eventually, yours will die as well.

it'll probably never happen. 2 years before getting a ylod is good for a hi tech device these days.

it happened to me 3 times: once on march 6th, july 12th & august 12th, & i didn't need to pay a single dime for all 3 repairs. the 3rd time i got it repaired, i found out that they erased all of my data. i was livid! but at least all of my trophies were still there :)

I'm curious, it seems that it is always the 60GB versions that show up in these threads, do the other versions suffer this fate?

I actually hope that they replace the old 60 gig parts with newer parts so that the YLOD is less likely to happen. If it happens to me again, I'm definately getting the new slim one.
