I've already decided on it. I just was curious what other people would do. It's 30 days no games for him and for my nephew that lives with me for the way they've both been acting.

Ground him from videogames until you say he can play them again. And if he tries to sneak and play some, tell him you are selling the console.

I took his Wii and PS3 out of his play room and put away all controllers from the other PS3s. I marked on the calender today through Dec 23rd and told him he can't play till X-mas eve. So that's over 4 weeks. He's 5 and Moses is 12 and they're both banned for over 4 weeks.

Wow.

My 12 year old son got his PS3 taken away for one bad grade until the grade changed. Too much gaming. Not enough homework.

Needless to say, next report card showed all of his grades up. Only then was the console returned.

No games for an entire month as punishment? HA! What does that prove?

Should be no games until further notice. Maybe forever.

So now the grades are up he can catch up on missed gaming and have even worse grades next time? I'd be really annoyed at the kid but damn smashing a TV for being grounded? Has he ever been grounded before? A good old smack every now and then wouldn't do any harm... Not implying this but i have seen parents who are totally against discipline that they cheer the kids for taking a dump on the floor... Thats no way to raise a kid... I'd discipline him or threaten him with a boarding school but if does do anything i'd really go for it and pack his bags and drive him to the door of one, that would show how serious i was about it.

no offense dude, but you need to put your foot down. 30 days is just a slap on the wrist, considering the crime. if he feels he can smash your tv and get away with it, you need to do something that'll really make him think twice before he does something like that again.

better idea would be to let them open there christmas gifts (if your still getting them any) and have some of them be video games they wanted, but push the date back they cant play until mid january! that would be torture!!!!

Gee thanks! I wasn't asking how to discipline him.

clr84651

I think you asked what his punishment should be, so I am guessing that is the same thing ...

1 - He should be outside being active with other kids, not playing games inside your house

2 - Your sister in law shouldn't be playing video games while watching your kid

3 - If your kid is that spoiled to not be able to handle a simple grounding for 4 or 5 hours, you have problems

2 & 3 are spot on. He does get to play with other kids, he has a bad temper when he doesn't get what he wants. He often acts out against other kids as well. He's shattered an Ipod touch when he had it and his mom asked for it back he went up to the corner of our wood TV stand and smashed the glass screen into it. He has broken 2 Nintendo DS's by throwing them when people have needed them back. I've asked my wife and her sister not to give him these kinds of things because he'll break them because of his unwillingness to listen or give them back when it's time. The other problem is that Moses my wife's siter's son that lives with us is a bad example and she doesn't take an active role in disciplining him when he is out of line and my son then thinks that since he gets away with bad behavior then why shouldn't I get away with it too? So now I have to step in and do what I can to stop both of their bad behavior. The tough part is where do I step in and where do I go to Moses mother? Moses has broken many things as well and his mother doesn't punish him for it. Moses has broken our cupboard door, put several holes in walls, broken a ceiling fan and 2 couches. They both just seem to not have the respect towards others or for things in general as they should have. My wife and I are very good examples and very good people and it's like it's a big game to them no matter how much they get in trouble or talked to they continue the bad behavior.

1. This child of yours is obviously too addicted to video games.

2. He needs to be grounded until you feel he is ready to be back on, after showing some improvement over a few months.

3. He needs to have a time limit like no games during the week, 2 hours each day on the weekend.

4. He is obviously a very destructive child and needs to see a specialist and not play so many violent video games.

5. I do not know you nor your family, so it is really up to you to decide if you listen to this or not.

30 days is not enough, a $2500 tv? You ground him for 2 months, and take away christmas from him, thats the ONLy way he will learn to respect other peoples belongings. now you have to buy a whole new tv for the family because he broke it? thats just despicable.

This is "Gamespot" not a psychology or how to train your son site. Oh and what's the big deal with giant tvs? those are for giant livingrooms and requires people to sit far from them when playing games or it will be an image quality mess and what if you need to charge your controller while playing? I hope i am not sounding rude.
