I have had my PS3 since launch. I bought it along with a 42 inch Panny Plasma and have ALWAYS used HDMI. I recently moved all of my belongings to a different state for a move, but left my SDTV here in NY until my kids finish school. I was getting myself ready for a dissapointing experience on the SDTV. But low and behold, I am amazed at just how good the graphics are on the tv. It is just an RCA 25 inch using S-video, but the graphics are really not bad at all. This after using a plasma in HD for 7 months.

The funny thing is that my kid couldnt tell the difference (not much at least) in the resolutions. I could really notice it in GTHD and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. But overall the quality of the SD signal is still top notch. SO SD owners, dont fret. Take pride in your current setup and upgrade only when it is feasable. You will be happy when you do uograde, but I would not call it a neccesity (sp?)

Of course, I have yet to try Oblivion in SD yet.......

Good job SONY!!

With smaller tv's resolution is not as important.... it's kind of along the lines of why people say you don't need 1080p unless your tv is 50in or larger. I don't know why people waste their money on small flat panels... unless space is an issue. I guess the 16:9 ratio makes a difference as well, but I just don't think those thigns are worth it for any tv under32 inches.

I just bought HD TV and I can say one thing : to hell with SD TV :) . When I played PS3 for about 15 min on my new TV I was like in the mood to just go to other room and throw out my old SD TV.

This is a testament of how the people at Sony considered not everyone could afford a HDTV at this time. But still supported old technology for these people. That's one of the things that has gained a lot of respect from many people on there products.

How right you are. I'll have my hands ona PS3 by the end of the day. If I'm lucky that is. I have a 27'' SDTV and I'm sure it's going to look great. Plus, if I really wanted the "full" experience I could go downstairs and play games on my 47'' LCD Full HDTV. I'll chech both out and blog about it.

I think there was a big shift in quality from my SD telly to a HD, but honestly i get most enjoyment watching blu movie discs than playing thegames. But i'll probably feel different when i hook up a decent sound system and it'sa lot more immersive.

There not waisting there money, its just that they haven't got a couple G's to drop on a new TV. For me, i can either afford a £300 ($600) TV and pay up front or get a big screen paid on finance / credit card. I should do option one, its the sensible thing to do. But i've got my eye on this new 40" 1080p Samsung:roll:

you people... the resolution is for big screens!!! if you get a 13 inch sdtv of course is gotta see awesome but try to play in a 32 inch SDtv.... and in top of that there arenot an HDtv that have better contrast than an sdtv but in the end if you wanna see all the details you need a big screen and of course with high resolution because with 480i a 42 inch tv is gonna look like crap.

bigger screen = bigger objects = more easy to see thing but you need the resolution to have the image at the scale of the big screen.

thats why 1080p is not big deal if you gonna get an HDtv below 50".

I'm worried his 42inch plasma wasn't full HD (not talking about 1080p). What resolution was it? I guess if it was 1024*768 that's high enough, but hopefully it wasn't an EDTV (852*480)
