I've heard that it happens if you watch too many movies on it.

my friends were playing COD4 and then all of a sudden the tv went completly blank. we reset the system and it would no longer read any type of dics. DVD, Blu-Ray, PS3, PS2 and Audio CD! i called sony customer service and they also said they have had a few returns of this same type. they were very helpfull though and since its under warranty they will fix or replace it.

That sucks. It it's still under warranty I hope you have the receipt. Because Sony won't want to repair it without a receipt.

I don't understand what is amusing? It's a electronic product going bad, happens everyday to Ipods, Computers, tv, etc... This sucks and at least it's getting taking care of which is good news.

Oh i get it your a 360 fan, and thinks it amusing, 1 to your 10,000 isn't a bad number now is it.

had the exact same problem with my ps3 and looking at the forums a fair few ppl have had problems with their ps3 systems. honestly i would say that their is a much higher failure rate than the 1% failure rate that a lot of ppl claim the ps3 has.

sorry bud but that is not completley true. I had to send mine back. But I had no ticket of sale. The customer rep said she had to talk to her floor supervisor. She came back and said they would validate my PS3 through a "Good Graces Warranty". But I guess they felt sorry for me, I don't know. But now I have new PS3 (60 gig) just like my other one.

You need to collect more than 50 thousand RMA cases to claim the failure rate is higher than 1% and much more than that to claim a "much higher" failure rate.

So please just tell me exactly how many "a fair few ppl" you've seen falling into the same situation?

Its true that watching to many movies wears ur laser out the same problem happened with the PS2 it took sony like 4 revised versions to fix it , also u cant really keep bashin the 360 as most of the hardware failures are isolated to theearly models

The PS2 had the same problems on release and electronics will continue to have problems

I have had2 PS3s although mine wasnt a laser fault it would just stop workin after maybe 2 hours and then reset its self randomly

The laser didn't just burn out, it was also because of the blue dvd game discs. The laser would release the dye from the dvd and it would coat the lense.
