For some reason, my ps3 doesnt read disc anymore. Theres the little thing upper right corner acting like its still reading the disc, but nothing wont show up. I think the laser died or something?

And if I send it back to Sony to replacee the laser(which i think its the problem), should i take out my HDD first? So that they dont erase my game files.

Thx.

Well since you've got to send it in it seems, back up all your stuff first. Get a USB stick or memory stick (they're cheap these days. I've bought a 1gig SD card at Walmart for $8 here in Canada) copy your stuff. If you get a memory stick, make sure you have a way to copy it to your PC like through a camera or something. If your total data is more than your stick, do multiple swaps and back it up on your PC.

Can you give more details about the memory sticks? like where did you buy them and does it have to be a specific kind?

because i dont want to mess up buying the wrong one.

Well, since it seems you don't know much about them your best bet would be to go with a USB stick. Especially if you're backing up data that's higher than it's size. A USB stick would be more universal and easier for you.

But if you must, a SanDisk card would be easier for you. (SD Card) It says right on the package. That's the cheapest one. But since different models have different slots it seems, go with a USB stick to be on the safe side if you don't really know. Get a 2 gig stick or something cheap. That way, you could just plug it into your PC without worry.

i got the same problem twice in just over a year,i was getting an error code - 8001054,i would say that a usb pendrive(usb stick) would be a better option,i have a 16 gig pendrive and they are not that expensive, although for my back up,i had to use my 80 gb ipod, this was because the size of the backup had increased cause of all the demos,videos,etc...that i had downloaded.
