I was going to make this thread about a month ago when the freezing first occured after playing Call Of Duty MW2 for a couple hours, but I decided to just over look it and ignore what had just happened. Yesterday I was using the web and after accepting the use of Plug-In, my slim just froze with the web "busy circle" still spinning for about a minute, then it just froze all together. (Mouse curser did not move whlie the circle was spinning) Do I have a defective Slim? Please let me know if you guys have stumbled upon this issue.

EDIT: And to make matters worse, the Power button was not working, it'll just stay there turned on with the green led light on. Being that this slim doesn't have a rough shutdown switch (Phat PS3's switch on the back), I had to actually unplug the frozen slim in order for it to shut down and restart.!! I'm having regret purchasing it, I might sell it for a Fatty 160gb.

I wouldn't worry to much... they do freeze sometimes. Mine froze yesterday when I was playing Bioshock 2. It happens.

I don't want to be the one to inform you of this, but it is a very common problem especially for PS3 Slims that are about to cease to function. Get as much play as you can out of it, becasue it will soon be gone. I had to pay $180 to get my PS3 repaired because it was 2 weeks out of warranty, luckily I think the warranty should still be valid on your system.

What no one gonna make a joke like "Put some blankets on it" or "Give it some hot cocoa"?

I mean a PS3 becoming cold? That seems impossible in my opinion!:o And yes I know what he means with "freezing".:P

This is not a time to make jokes. The TC spent hard earned money on the PS3 and for it to be on its last legs only a few months after the purchase is not correct. Let's see you be happy about a $180 repair bill after only a year and 2 weeks of owning a PS3.

Well then TC forgive me.

I've been gone from here for a while so jokes used to make everything better. Apparently now the PS3 forums have become serious business.:(

But really man sorry that does suck.

I mean the fact that it's only a few months old, irritates me because I was deciding on a slim and a brand new 80gb (MGS Version) for the same price, I went with "reliable" but bit me in the a**

Wait, so it has only frozen twice over a month or so? Don't worry about it man, they freeze sometimes. You only need to worry if it starts happening regularly.

Even if something does goes wrong, it's under warranty for a year, so no worries.

I know how you feel. My PS3 was my first console to die since I went through 3 PS2's at the start of last gen. It is irritating that I have to pay for their mistakes. Why can't Sony offer a 3-year warranty like Microsoft can?

Luckily they dont break nearly as often.

Anyways im haveing some freezing issues myself. I cant remember how many times I used to have freezing on my old ps1 lol but still loved the thing. Anyways I just bought my ps3 about a month ago and it froze a lot the first few times on the first day. then firmware updated once I connected it to the internet and then after that it only froze on me once yesterday when I was trying to access the wirless internet from wired.

Dont like it freezing but it has never once frozen in game for me luckily only while messing with settings. Im sure especially if its new it will fix itself.

I have heard that the PS3 slims freeze more than Fat PS3's.. I have an 80BG Fat PS3, and it has never froze since I got it in 2008. If you DO sell your slim, get a fat 80GB, with backwards compatibility.

Dude your Slim has frozen once while playing a game and once in the browser in a few months thats normal. The browser is unstable and very rarely it can just crash. In 4 months of use my Slim has frozen twice while playing a game and over 50 times when using the internet on it, the browser just blows. it's normal and completely harmless.

Just got a new slim PS3 a few days ago and it freezes as well when web browsing. I literally have to turn the unit off and then back on because the controller wont do anything when the system is froze.

I wonder if the freezing that I'm having with my slim is because of the web browsing, It only does it on some web pages?! I dunno how a brand new system can be doing this.

I would only worry if it happens regularly in games. The web browser is known to freeze a lot for some people (not me personally, but a lot of people say that).

If you're really worried though, send it in, it's under warranty.

i've had my slim for about 2 months now and haven't had any problems. I don't really use the internet browser though. Sounds like some bad luck though.

I understand that but as I mentioned earlier in one of my posts, being that the PS3 Slims lacks the power ON/OFF switch in the back that the PS3 Fatty's provided, I'm forced on having to disconnect the power unit from the wall everytime this occurs being that the power button does not do anything once it's frozen.

Using the switch on the back and unplugging it would have the same effect. They both cut the power to the PS3.
