Need Help: PS3 Won't Read MGS4

Ya basicly, ive had the game since day 1 and beat the game a few days back. Anyways im watching the final cutscene and a little symbol pops up in the upper left corner, this symbol is a question mark overlapped over a disc icon. I figured that the disc is busted, but try it again and no luck. Returned it today to get another copy and tried starting a new game and same thing.

So i figured maybe its the game data and deleted it from the xmb, and tried re-installing it. Once again same problem about 8% through the install, it freezes again. Now I can't play MGO, or MGS4. Has anyone run into this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? Atleast before i could MGO, but now might have to get my ps3 fixed.

I Guess no one has had this problem which a good thing, unfortunate for me.

btw, which version do you have? i have the launch 60 gb

i remember that icon on MGS for the PSone, the user manual says its cuz you're playing for too long and you need to turn off the system.

PS djmerk i have a 60gb ps3 and im hoping to get MGS4 asap, you think 60gb are more likely to give you a hard time with MGS4? i heard stories about GTAIV on the 60gb launch ps3 never had those..

my system just craps out after about 30 mins of play

the first time it happened to me, which was on friday, the system was on for a good 4 to 5 hours

i think its an overheating problem

Well I have a 60GB Launch PS3 .. also have MGS4 and GTA4 and I have yet to encounter any problems .. regardless of which system it is, they can all break ..

Ya its perfect since i got a new copy of it today and still messing up, i did notice that the first disc was getting scratched and i didnt think blueray discs could get scratched.

Theres a number at the back of manual for konami, so im just gonna call them and ask then what that symbol means, since sony probably doesnt have a clue since its not their product directly.

yo same thing for me too! my ps3 shows the same icon on the top left in the middle of a cutscene in act 3 an it freezes! So i keep tryin gand the same happenes all the time, all my other games and movies work (even ps2 games) except for MGS4 WTF! Someone help!

maybe it has something to do with the most recent update 2.36?

i looked online and one solution is delete the MGS4 install then reinstall! ill try tomorrow! winner-ps3

I did that and now it wont get through the 10min install at the start up. Freezes at 8%, maybe you'll have more luck.

no luck, i deleted my install and i cant even get to the install screen to reinstall it, ths is terrible, i just want to play this game!

i cant find anything to slove it on the internet, but ive found many forums with this problem

I'm on my second copy and it still doesn't work, so i think its time to call sony.

I THINK I FIXED IT!!!!!

During certain troubleshooting situations, it may be necessary to restore all of the PLAYSTATION 3 system settings back to their original "default" configuration.

1. From the XMBTM home menu, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [Restore Default Settings].
   
   
2. Once you select [Restore Default Settings], you will see a list of settings that will be restored. Scroll through them and press the button to restore the settings.
   
   
3. After the operation is complete, you will see the initial setup screen that appeared the first time you turned on the PLAYSTATION 3.
   You will need to go through the initial setup process before you can use the PLAYSTATION 3.
   

IMPORTANT

The Restore Default Settings feature will erase any previously saved settings and restore all of the following settings to the default:

• BD/DVD Settings
• Music Settings
• Chat Settings
• System Settings
• Date and Time Settings
• Accessory Settings
• Display Settings
• Sound Settings
• Security Settings
• Network Settings
• Internet Browser Settings

Also, DO NOT CONFUSE "Restore Default Settings" with the "Restore PS3 System" option (the next option down on the menu). The "Restore PS3 System" will not only restore the default settings, but it will also delete all hard disk content. (You will lose all saved content from your PS3 system's hard drive if you use "Restore PS3 System.)

God the EXACT same thing has happened to me.

Any1 got a fix to this problem yet? Sony just wants me to send it in, but i can play all my games besides mgs4 so not gonna happen, like my 60gb.

Edit: Nevermind that, any time i try to save, the screen goes black and im just sittign there scrathcing my head.(saving my other games that is).

Please tell me there are people who aren't having this problem. I'm planning to buy a PS3 and MGS4 is the first game I want to buy. @_@;

I have a similar problem at first the ?disk came up mid-way through the begining adds but then eventually it worked. I don't know why though. But now im trying to start a new game i have the same problem. Also recently when i put in the disk I go off the ps3 title screen like it would normally for a game then the screen just stays blank it happens around 30% of the time. And yes i have tried cleaning it
